UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN T. OURRAN, OF BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR TO THE TIFFANY & OOMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A FORK, 80c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,650, dated February 18, 1890.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN T. CURRAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, New York, have invented a new and original Design for Forks, Spoons, and other Table Utensils, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of the same.
This invention relates to a design tobeimparted to or worked upon spoons, forks, and other table utensils; and it consists in the novel configuration and ornamentation here- 'in specifically shown and claimed;
Figure l of the accompanying drawings is a front view of a fork with my design applied thereto, and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same.
My design is mainly worked upon and imparted to the handle of the table utensil, although a portion of the design extends over the. body of the article. The outline of the edges of the handle is composed of an undulating line,broken and varied occasionally in correspondence with the ornamentation of the handle. The front and 'back faces of the handle are ornamented with figures in relief.
My design is composed of two parts-the front A (shown in Fig. 1,) and the back B, (shown in Fig. 2.) The front part A is traversed along each side by a stem'work, and each stem-work follows the general contour of the adj acent edge or side of the handle. These stem-works converge at their lower ends, and are at this place provided with scrolls and formed into a somewhat crown-shaped ornament. A few curved and leaf ornaments are arranged at the base of the handle and about the lower ends of the stems. Each stemwork, for some distance above this lower ornament, consists of substantially parallel lines; but near the middle of the handle sev- -eral curved and leaf ornaments are placed,
which partly conceal the stem-works, and these ornaments extend upward some distance. The stem-works converge above this point, and several curved and leaf ornaments Application filed January 17, 1890. Serial No. 387,248. Term of patent 1t years.
are arranged between the stemworks and the edges of the handle, and a center ornament is arranged between the stem-works. The
handle increases rapidly in width above these ornaments, and then the edges slowly converge and the stem-works follow the outline of the handle. Small leaf ornaments are here arranged at intervals along the stemworks, projecting inward from the same. At the top of the handle the stem-works rapidly approach each other, and several curved ornaments are arranged about them. The back part B has at the base a double leaf and scroll ornament, from which two stem-works pass upward. Leaf ornaments are arranged at the sides just above this double ornament. The stem-works extend upward for some distance, each stem-work at this part consisting of substantially parallel lines, and the stem-works merge near the middle of the handle in several curved and leaf ornaments, and these ornaments extend upward some distance. The handle rapidly increases in width above these ornaments, and then the edges slowly converge, and two stem-works along the edges follow this outline. A central curved ornament and a few other ornaments are arranged at this wider portion of the handle. The stem-works approach close together at the top of the handle, and a few curved ornaments are placed about them. i
What I claim, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is-
1. The design for forks, spoons, or other table utensils, consisting of the front A, sub- JOHN T. CURRAN.
