Description

FIP: 5719b DESIGN.
H. EELY. Pen-Racks.
No. 11,258. Patented June 24,1879,
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
HARRIET K. ELY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR PEN-RACKS.
Specification forming part of Design No. l1,25, dated June 24,1879; application filed January 16, 1879.
[Term of patent 3% years] To all in]: cm it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRIET K. ELY, of the city, county, and State of New York, hage produced a new and original Design for a Pen- Rack, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 in the drawings presents a front view of m y newlydesigned pen-rack, and Fig. 2 is a side view thereof.
It will be seen that the frame or bod of the pen-rack is designed to representa horseshoe, the headed nails of which project from the grooved face thereof.
The rack is represented as being in an easy inclined position by a central leg extending from the back of the horseshoe at an opposite inclination, and which is designed to represent the fore leg of a horse, as shown, thus giving a harmonious effect. The face of the shoe is smooth, without the usual ealks, as shown, and the level surface is thus well adapted to receive painted decorations, to impart an ornate tone to the design, a motto being usually inscribed over the arched top with flowers or tracery upon each branch of the shoe, the whole design thus giving a novel and pleasing efi'eet.
hat I claim is A design for a penrack, consisting of a horseshoe-sha 'ied frame and rackpegs projecting therefrom in the shape of the headed ends of horseshoenails, and a central supportingdeg behind, representing the fore leg of a horse, substantially as herein shown and described.
HARRIET K. ELY.
