No. 10,593 March 26, 1878 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN 1t. LOMAS, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO B. SHONINGER, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR AN ORGAN-CASE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,593, dated March 26, 1878; application filed February 18, 1878. [Term of patent 14 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN R. LOMAS, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Design for Organ-Gases; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a perspective view.
This invention relates to a design for organcases, particularly adapted to reed organs; and consists in the configuration and ornamentation of the case, as hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
The general form of the body of the case is not materially different from common constructionbut at the two rear angles there is a vertica polygonal column, extending above the body of the case, the sides paneled, and top capped. At each of the front angles there is a similar post, but smaller, and extending up only flush with the top of the key-section, and correspondingly capped. At each side there is a buttress, extending from near the top of the front column and up onto the front of the rear column. l3etween the two rear columns the usual book-rest is arranged, with a shelf above it. From this shelf, at each side, is a lamp-bracket, d, representing a horn, the mouth forming the shelf of the bracket.
Above this is asecond shelf or gallery, on which are the representations of several musical instruments--a lyre in the center, horns at each side, and also aviol at each side, all as shown in the accompanying illustration. The back, beneath the upper shelf, curves from the front of the upper shelf backward and downward to the rear of the shelf below.
I clai1n- 1. The herein-described design for an organcase, consisting of the body with the polygonal column at the rear angles, and smaller polygonal column at the front angles, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
2. The design for lamp-brackets for organcases, consisting of the representation of a horn, as shown in accompanying illustration.
3. The herein-described design for an organ case, consisting of the upper shelf or gallery surmounted by the musical instruments, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
4. The herein-described design for organease, consisting of the upper shelf above the book-rack, a second shelf or gallery above the said first shelf, with the back, beneath the said upper shelf, curving from the front of the said upper shelf backward and downward to the rear of the shelf below, as shown and described.
JOHN B. LOMAS. Witnesses:
