Description

WILLIAM n. oArLEY, or
ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
Letters'Patent No. 99,697, dated February 8, 1870.
To all whom 'it fmay concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. OATLEY, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Stove-'Leg and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specitication, in whicli- Figure 1 is an'nverted view of my invention.
'Figures 2 and 3 are side elevations. Y
The object and nature of myiinvention will be unings; and ,l Y
'lo enable others to make and use my invention, I will describe its construction.
The stove-legiA is made in the ordinary manner, the top-flange being held in a dovetailed recess between the lugs a, castnpon the bottom plate of the stove.
The ange of the leg A is extended somewhat beyond the end of the lugs ,fand a. groove, b', iig. 3, formed in the face next the bottom plate, to receive the key b. The leg-ange, being somewhat narrower at its inner end, is fitted to slide into its seat til] the groove b registers with the end of the lugs a. The key yis then inserted, and, il' desirable, its ends bent The Schedule referd to in these Letters Patent and making part of the sama The extension of the 'leg`-tlange may be in the form of two lugs, c, at the sides, as shown in iig. l, ora single central'lug, as in lig. 2. Il' desirable, a spur may becast pontile face of the leg-flange, and drilled to receive tiie keyror pin bearing against corresponding spurs upon the lugs a, as indicated bythe dottedv lilies in figs. 1 and 3.
It may be found advantageous to drill -the lugs e, instead of providing the groove b', since the leg-tlnnge may be inserted and marked for theV key-way, without previous careful Iitt'ng.
The key b may be s'imply a piece of strong wire, slightly tapered at one end.
lt is obvious that my invention is very cheap and simple, and fully as edicient as moreexpeusive and objectionable fastenings.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The stove-leg A, when locked in its seatby a suitable transverse key, b, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. Y
WM. OATLEY.
