Description

M. E. LARRABEE.
SKIRT AND HOSE SUPPORTER. APPLIUATION 111.211 MAY 28,1908.
Patented Jl1116 27, 1911.
MARTHA E. LARRABEE, OF ANITA, IOWA.
SKIRT AND HOSE SUPPORTER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTHA E. LARRABEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Anita, in the county of Cass and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt and Hose Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object an improved construction of skirt and hose supporter which will be hygienic and comfortable in use, and which will remove the weight of the underskirts and hose from the waist to the shoulders, avoiding the necessity of a belt at the waist line.
With these and other objects in view as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved skirt and hose supporter; and, Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of a portion thereof.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.
My improved skirt and hose supporter comprises shoulder straps 1 that are connected to a belt 2, the said belt being provided at one end with a buckle 3, so that such end may be readily connected to the other end of the belt. At the back of the device, the shoulder straps 1 are connected by means of a transverse web t as shown, and brace straps 5 extend from the shoulder straps at the point of connect-ion of the web 4 therewith, outwardly and downwardly to the belt 2, to which they are also connected.
6 designates tab extensions that are secured to the belt, as shown, at the points of connect-ion of the belt and brace straps 5, the shoulder straps themselves extending downwardly below the belt so as to form corresponding tab extensions. In the present instance, there are four of these tab extensions employed. Skirt pins 7 are secured Specification of Letters Patent.

to the tab extensions 6, said pins being de- Patented June 27, 1911.

to be tied together to prevent the shoulder straps from slipping over the points of the shoulders.
In the practical use of my improved hy-- gienic hose and skirt supporter, the skirt pins 7 are attached to the waist band of the skirt or skirts, and the shoulder straps 1 pass from the belt 2 upwardly over the shoulders and thence downwardly outside of the bust and are again attached to the belt 2 by means of safety pins 8, said shoulder straps themselves extending downwardly and being attached to the hose supporters 9. The belt 2 extends just below the bust, and the tapes 11 are fastened together as before described, to prevent the shoulder straps from slipping over the points of the shoulders.
From the foregoing description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple and eflicient construction of skirt and hose supporter, by the use of which, the weight or tension of the hose and skirts is removed from the waist and supported by the shoulders entirely, thereby avoiding the necessity of any belt at the waist line.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A garment supporter comprising a belt adapted to extend around the body and having a buckle whereby it may be adjusted, shoulder straps, continuous from one end to the other, the rear portion of the straps being permanently attached to said belt, the ends of said rear portions of the straps depending freely below the belt and being provided at their terminations with garmentengaging devices, the front ends of the straps after passing overthe shoulders of the wearer being extended downward below the belt on opposite sides .of the buckle and below the terminal ends of the rear portions In testimony whereof I affix my signature of the straps and being provided at the ter in presence of two Witnesses.
minations of their front ends with loose engaging devices, the front portions of the MARTHA LARRABEE' straps being shiftable Vertically and hori- Witnesses:
zontally With relation to the belt and being CHAS. W. MAJOR,
entirely independent thereof. OLARENOE'R. PALMER.
