COMBINED BELT AND GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 20, 1915.
Application filed August 11, 1911. Serial No. 843,498.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEOPOLD FELDMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Belts and Garments, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to an improved inside belt for garments, skirts, etc. Its objects and advantages are to proyide a belt which will collect the fullness of the waist band of the garment at the hips or at the back or at both places, but not at the front to present an unsightly appearance and which is the disadvantage of ordinary belts. Further, my present-belt adjustably takes in the fullness of the waist band to fit the wearer. Further, by taking in the fullness over the hips, it makes the garment hang from the point of the hips which gives ideal support for the garment and makes the belt effective even for thin people. My arrangement is further especially sightly because the greater part of the belt is concealed, doing away with unsightly belt loops. On the other hand, the buckle por tion of the belt in my arrangement alone shows at the front of the garment and this being the best looking part of the belt adds to rather than detracts, from the appearance of the garment.
The drawings illustrate my invention in connection with a pair of trousers.
In them, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention applied to a pair of trousers, the belt being shown pulled away at the back and as not being passed through the belt loops 6; and Fig. 2 is an elevation on a large scale of the back of the trousers in Fig. 1, but with the change that the belt is shown passed through the belt loop 6 fiat against the waistband of the trousers.
Describing now the devices of the drawings, 1 is the waist band ofthe garment, 2 is a belt having at its free ends a buckle 3,
'or other belt-coupling means for uniting said ends.
4 are horizontally spaced apart glove fastener parts on the inside of the waist band, preferably located at its hip portions or both there and at the back of the garment.
5 designates a series of glove fastener parts complementary to the parts 4 and disposed along the corresponding {portions of the belt 2. It will be seen that the parts 5 are spaced at the same and at less distances apart than the parts 4. This permits any fullness of the waist band to be taken up at these points, viz: over the hips or both there and at the back, or at the back only. This is done by engaging, for example, the fasteners a and d on the belt with the fastener parts on, the waist band, thereby drawing said band together about the distance between the fasteners d and 6. Similarly, usmg the fasteners a and a still further shortens the waist band,-as does also the use of the fasteners b and c.
6 designates belt loops secured to the inside of the waist band between its fastener parts to receive therethrough the belt, the purpose being to hold the fullness of the waist band inwardly next the belt and body of the wearer.
At the front of the trousers, the waist band is cut or slit at 7 vertically down through its upper edge for a distance somewhat greater than the width of the belt whose ends project through these slits so that the buckle of the belt appears and can be operated on the outside of the trousers.
8 designates glove fastener parts uniting the upper ends of the slits 7, which then act also to uphold the front of the trousers like belt loops.
The operation of the device will be plain from what has already been said. The fullness of the waist band will be adjustable by the wearer to come at the hips of the gar ment or at the back or at both places if necessary,by adjusting the fastener parts of the belt to those on the waist band as heretofore described. This done, the buckle of the belt is then operated as ordinarily to unite the ends, but with the result that the frontof the garment will be smooth and free from substantial fullness which will now be located over the hips or at the back where it is least unsightly and where, especially over the hips, it does the most good in supporting the garment from the belt.
What I claim is:
1. The combination with a body encircling belt and means for securing its ends together and adjusting it to the body of the wearer, of a garment having a waist band that surrounds the belt and covers the same, and means for detachably securing spaced portions of the waist band to the belt at distances apart less than the normal distance between the said portions on the waist band whereby said Waist band is contracted to less than its normal size.
2. The combination with a body encircling belt and means for securing its ends together and adjusting it to the body of the wearer, of a garment having a waist band that surrounds the belt and covers the same, a set of spaced fastening elements carried by the inner side of the waist band, and a set of cooperating fastening elements carried by the outer Side of the belt, one of the sets comprising a greater number of elements than the other and the elements of said other set being located a greater'distance apart than those of the first mentioned set.
3. The combination with a body encircling belt and means for securing its ends together and adjusting it to the body of the memes wearer, of a garment having a waist band that surrounds the belt and covers the same, means for detachably secdring spaced portions of the waist band to the belt at distances apart less than the normal distance between the said portions on the waist band whereby said waist band is contracted to less than its normal size, and means for mounting the belt on the inner side of the waist band, said means permitting the adjustment of the belt with respect to the-Waist band and also the contraction of the Waist band With relation to the belt.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses;
LEOPOLD FELDMAN.
