To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ADOLPH DEUTSCH, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, borough of Bronx, county of Bronx, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspensories, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is a suspensory and the object of the invention is to so construct a suspensory that the attaching elements thereof will maintain the device in correct position upon the wearer and will not become dislodged or shifted by bodily move ments.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a suspensory which may be made to fit persons of various heights thereby obviating the necessity of carrying in stock a large assortment of various sizes of the article. 7

In suspensories as hereinbefore manufactured considerable difliculty has been encountered in maintaining the device in its proper position particularly when the wearer is an active person and this has been found particularly so by persons who have not pronounced hips. With persons of such build, devices which have depended upon the hips for supporting a band passed around the waist are inefficient since the band invariably works downward over the hips and renders the structure inoperative to carry out its functions. -Moreover, it has been the practice for merchants to carry in stock a plurality of widely varying sizes intended for persons of diflerent heights.

The present invention overcomes the foregoing disadvantages in that it embodies a structure which will, at all times, maintain a proper position and may, at will, be made to fit persons of different heights and builds.

tion in front relation and shows the general position of the structure when placed on a wearer.

Referring to said drawing A indicates the usual sack supporting portion of the suspensory. This sack may be of any wellknown or approved form, its specified structure forming no part of the present invention. Sack A. is, however, provided with two supporting tabs a which extend upwardly from either side thereof and are adapted to be engaged by buckles a sewed or otherwise secured to the lower ends of a pair of terminal members B. To the upper end of one of said terminal members B is fixedly secured one end of a waist band or belt C, said band C being adapted to be passed about the waist of a wearer so as to overlie the hips and its other end passed through a buckle 0 fixed at the upper end of the other terminal member B. By virtue of the cooperative engagement between the buckle c and the free end of the band C said band may be properly fitted about the waist of the wearer so as to conform with his waist measurement.

In addition to the structure already described; an elastic member D is provided which is secured at its opposite ends to the terminal members B and is thus so placed that when the device is in proper position upon the wearer it will extend across the abdomen. When the device is applied to the wearer in a manner which will be manifest, the drawing of the band C taut about the waist will place the abdominal elastic member D under more or less tension depending upon the degree to which the wearer desires to tighten the belt. The structure maintains the position in which it is initially placed because of the fact that no matter how active the wearer is or whether standing erect or otherwise the elastic band D will compensate for varying girth measurements, and maintain the band C at all times tightly wrapped about the waist. Moreover, being of elastic material, the member D is free to expand and contract when the wearer breathes and to also compensate for the difference in waist measure before and after meals. Accordingly, no undue pressure is placed upon the waist or abdomen and the waist band C willnot bind uncomfortably.

A further feature of advantage inherent in the application of the elastic tension member D is that it serves, in effect, the function of the abdominal support so that during walking, running or other exercising the abdomen is more or less steadied with consequent well-known results.

Aside from the foregoing advantages specified relative to the maintenance of the device in proper position after the same has been initially put on by the wearer the structure is such as to enable it to properly fit persons of various heights or different degrees of corpulency since it will be manifest that sack A may be raised or lowered relative to its supporting devices by shifting the tabs a relative to the buckles a to raise or lower the sack as may be required. Thus a proper and correct fitting of the device to any particular wearer may readily be made without the necessity of making permanent changes or having a device made to order to fit the particular conditions of the individual wearer. Each individual wearer may thus manipulate the structure to obtain the proper fit from a stock device.

It will be manifest from the foregoing description that this invention embodies both means for raising and lowering the supporting sack relative to the terminal members B, and an incorporation of the elastic band D between said terminal members. It will be understood that the present invention is not restricted to the use of both of these features since if the elastic band feature were employed and the supporting bag raising or lowering feature omitted a very unsatisfactory suspensory would result. The salient feature of the present invention is the incorporation of the elastic band D in the manner specified. It will be understood, moreover, that in lieu of the buckles a other form of means may be employed to attach the sack A to the ter minal members B in such manner as to allow of the raising or lowering thereof. Accordingly, the present invention is not restricted to the buckles which form only the preferred practical embodiment of such a means. r

Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a supporting sack provided at the opposite sides thereof with tabs, a pair of terminal members, a waist encircling band fixed at one end to one of said terminal members and adapted to be adjustably secured near its other end to the other terminal member, a buckle on each terminal member adapted to engage with one of the tabs of the sack for maintaining the sack in a raised or lowered position relative to the terminal members, an elastic tension member secured 5 at its opposite ends to the terminal members and adapted to be under tension when said band is encircling the waist of the wearer, said tension member serving atall times to bind the body encircling band about the waist of the wearer.

2. In a device of the class described,the combination of a supporting sackprovided at the opposite sides thereof with tabs, a pair of terminal members, a waist encircling band fixed at one end to one of said terminal members and adapted to be'adjustably secured near its other end to the other terminal member, and a buckle on each terminal member adapted to engage with one of the tabs of the sack for maintaining the sack in a raised or lowered position relative to the terminal members.

3. In a device of the class described, the combination of a supporting sack, a pair of 35 terminal members, a waist encircling band fixed at one end to one terminal member and adapted to be adjustably secured near its other end to the other terminal member, and means cooperating with each terminal memher and with the sack for maintaining the sack in a raised or lowered position relative to the terminal members.
