Description
tiuiei tntes @anni @wird Letters Patent N 99,608, dated February 8, 1870.
V:Memoiren LAUNDRY-BENCH.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making of the same I, ALBERT H. SPENCER, of Providence, county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain Improvements in Laundry-Benches, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a folding bench, adapted to support two tubs and a wringing-machine, in ay conveuient relative position for use, and which may be folded into small compass for transportation 'orstorage I ts object is to economize space, promote the conveni'enceA of the 1aundress,and permit any ordinary wringing-mechanism to be, used therewith.
Figure 1 shows the bench, when properly set up for use. 1
Figure 2, the same, folded for transportation.
A is the platform, of sufficient dimensions to receive a tub n either side of the upright B, to Vthe top of which the wringer is secured.
C, braces, for giving steadiness to the same.l
D, ears, secured to the platform A, forming hinges for the cross-pieces E, to which are firmly attached the supporting-legs F. n
At each innerV corner of these cross-pieces,'a. hearing is turned, to pass through the ears D, permitting the legs to fold inward, when notin use, and preventing them from opening outward beyond the point desired when sustaining a weight. When thus spread for use, the superincumhent weight retains the legs in their proper position, and prevents their closing.
The upright B, to whichthe wringer is attached, consists of a single board, let into theV platform at its sides or centre.V Its dimensions are such as to permit' a household wringer, of any ordinaryA construction, to be clamped thereon, at a. proper height above the top of the tub.
The braces C are screwed to the edge of theplatform, and spring over short pins in the edge of the rupright, so that they can be readily disengaged, after which the upright may be slightly raised, then folded Haton the top of the bench, and the braces, folding at the side, lock the two together by slipping over projecting pins in their edges, as seen in fig. 2.
I claim, as my invention- 1. In combination with the platform A the adjustable upright B, and braces C, arranged substantially as described.
2. In combination with the platform-A, and-a suitable upright, B, the folding legs F, substantially as described.
3. The improved laundry-bench, herein described, combining the folding legs F, adjustable upright B, and braces C, for the purposes specified.
` ALBERT H. SPENCER.
