Description
llnittl gister JAMES MALLORY, OF LA PO-RTE, INDIANA.
l `Late-rs Paten No. 100,430, dated March 1, 1870.
. mp'novnn Pomme IRoNINwrABLE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same I, Jaivms H. MA"1.Lo1n',ofLa Porte, iu the county of La Porte, and State of Indiana, have invented certain Improvements `in Folding Drawing-Tables, of which the following is a'specification.
My invention relates to afolding laundry. orironingtable,\\'hich, when not in use, may be foldedvinto a.
smaller space for convenience of storing away,.and so constructed that the leaf or top is supported from the legs at one end, leaving one end free, so :that a garment may beslipped over it, as ywill be more fully hereafter set forth. i
. Description of Accompanying Drawings. Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, nnfolded or erect. Figure 2 is a side elevation of same when folded.
General Description. N A is the top or leaf, made in theconical'shape, with rounded ends, as ironing-boards are ordinarily made. B is the long support, consisting of twopieces, connected together at the ends.
i Ilhis support is made somewhat longer than the top,and is hinged thereto at the larger end ofsaid top by the hinge b, fastened to a block, c, attached `to said leaf or top.
C is the short support, made like B, inV two pieces,
l r connected at the ends.
These supports cross each other, and arehnged together at their crossing by the hinge b. 'j he short support C straddles the long support B.
The short support has the two pieces composing it cut with a tenon, H, at their upper ends, which tenons' catch into mortises 'iuthe under side of` the lea-f or topwhen the `table is erected.
A spring, E, is fastened to the under side of the top, and bearing on the connecting-piece F, which connects the two parts of the support C at their upper end, holds the upper end of support C against the underlside of the leaf or top, and presses the tenons H into the mortises above described.
D are levers, having a hooked end pivoted to the i` under side ofthe leaf. These hooked ends catch over the support O, and serve as an additional safeguard against the said supports slipping out ofethe mortises. i G aresmall piecespivoted to the support B. Their function is to 'keep the garment being roned from sweeping against the ioor. J are the feet or bottom of the supports B and C.
It will be readily seen that the top or leaf of this table, being supported from one end, leaves the entire .leaf free and clear up to the place where the support C enters the mortises above described, which is a great conveniencein ironing dress-skirts, Sac., as the skirt may be slipped over thesmall end of the. leaf, and turned round as it is being ironed Huntil completed.
I am aware that folding ironing-tables have been made, previous to this applicatiolnwvith asnpport at one end, made so thatthe other end may he supported upon a chair or table. I do not, therefore, broadly claim a folding ironing-table; but
WhatI do claim'as inv invention, and desire to secure by Letters'Patent, is-
The combination of the top A, supports B and C,
spring E, catches D, and pivoted braces G, as and for the purposes specified.
