To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN HOOK, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Cots, of which the following is aspecification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

Myinvention relates to certain new and useful improvements in folding cots.-

, The object of my invention is to provide a folding cot which when folded forms a small and compact package and occupies but a small amount of space.

A still further object of my invention is to provide a folding top for said cot which is adapted to be movably connected thereto and when not in use can be rolled, and thereby form a compact package.

My invention further consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and

particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved folding cot with a part of the slatted top broken away. Fig. 2 is a top view of one of the side rails, the end rails folded thereon. Fig. 3 is a side view showing the parts assembled against one of the side rails. Fig. 4 is a side view of one end of the side rails and one of the legs or supports, showing rigid braces secured thereto. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the braces.

Like figures of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings, in which- 1 and 2 indicate the side rails, and 3 and 4: the end rails, which are constructed, preferably, of wood, although iron or steel may be used, if desired. The side rail 1 is connected to the end rails by the hinges 5, and the end rails are adapted to fold against the inner side of the side rails. The side and end rails are provided with a mortise and tenon, as shown at 6 and 7, for securing the same together when the cot is set up. Formed in the side rails are slots 8, which are adapted to receive the upper ends of the legs or supports 9 and secure the same in position. The

legs or supports 9 are hinged at 10 to the side rails and are adapted to fold against the same. The legs or supports are provided with braces 11. The braces 11 are secured to each side of the legs or supports, at their upper and lower ends, by pivots 12 and are in an inclined position. Pivotally secured to the bottom of the side rails, as at 14, are rigid braces 15, having hooks 16 formed on their free end, which connect with eyelets 17, attached to the legs or supports for holding them rigidly in position.

My adjustable folding top consists of a series of slats 18, secured together by strips of webbing 19, suitably secured to the under face thereof. Attached to the ends of said slats, as at 20, are web-loops 21 for removably and adjustably securing the top or a series of said slats to the end rail.

The operation of my improved folding cot can be readily understood from the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings. It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A folding cot having a frame consisting of two side rails and two end rails suitably connected together, said end rails being also hinged at their one end to one of the side rails and adapted to fold in alinement therewith when disconnected from the opposite side rail, a folding top consisting of a series of slats, loops connecting said slats to the end rails, supporting-legs formed with a tenon on their upper ends to engage a mortise provided therefor in the side rails, pivoted braces connecting said supporting-legs, braces rigidly connecting said supporting-legs to the side rails, said legs being also hinged to said side rails to permit their folding in alinement therewith when the rigidly-connecting braces are disengaged from the said side rails, sub- 'stantially as herein shown and described.
