MOSQUITO-NET SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 5, 1907.
Application filed January 22, 1907. Serial No. 353,413.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS D. RAPPELEE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Green Bay, in the county of Brown and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mosquito- Net Supports, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a very simple, durable, and economic type of mosquito net support, capable of being compactly folded, and of being quickly and conveniently unfolded and placedin position on the frame of a bed, cot, or like article of furniture, arching over the same whereby to support a mosquito net at a point above the bed or cot and at its.
sides and ends. v
Another purpose of the invention isto provide a mosquito net support that is made of light bar material, and which need consist of but four members, sundry of which have pivotal and otherssliding connection with each other, the construction always being such that one member locks the other when the device is set up.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide a mosquito net support for use in connection with camp beds and cots, since the device can be quickly taken down and set up and can be neatly disposed of in the body of the cot when the latter is packed for transportation or storage.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination o the several parts as will be hereinafter fully set forth and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part. of this specication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of a cot and my device applied thereto, Fig. 2 is an end view of the cot and the applied device; Fig. 3 is an enlarged edge View of the connecting portions of the upper and lower side members of the device; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the device folded.
The cot illustrated, and to which the mosquito net supports are shown applied, is a folding camp cot, for which Letters Patent were granted to me November 6, 1906, No. 835,469, to which form of cot the supports are particularly adapted, but it will be understood that the device may be adapted to any form of cot or bed with equally good results.
The device is preferably constructed in four members, namely; two upper members A and B, and two lower members, C and These members are constructed preferably of rod metal of any suitable gage, and are straight between their ends, but any desired bers.
The upper member A is provided at its upper end with an eye 10, and the opposing upper member B is provided at its upper end with a corresponding eye 11, and by preference the eyes 10 and 11 are elongated, as illustrated, and the said eyes 10 and 11 are looped or linked together so that the said members A and B may be moved in any desired direction relatively to each other. The upper member A has its lower end provided with an elongated eye 12, and the opposing upper member B has a similar eye 13 at its lower end, and said eyes 12 and 13 are given a downward and inward inclination, or an inclination in direction of each other.
The lower member C is passed through theeye 12 of the upper member A, and the lower member D is passed throughthe eye 13 of the upper member B. The lower member C is provided at its upper end with an elongated eye 14 through which the body portion of the upper member A passes, and the upper portion of the opposing lower member D is also provided with a sirni-l lar eye 15 at its upper, end, through which the body portion of the upper member B passes. The eyes 14 and 15 are preferably given an upward and outward inclination, or an inclination the reverse of that given to the eyes 12 and 13, as shown in Fig. 4. This construction admits of the sliding engagement of the lower members C and D with the upper members A and B, so as to lengthen or shorten the side portions of the device; lengthening them for use yand shortening them for storage.
It is evident that when the lower members are drawn down, bringing them to the extent that their eyes 14 and 15 engage with the eyes 12 and 13 at the -lower ends of .the upper members A and B, a firm locking contact is provided, one that will hold the extended side members rigid, and impart strength thereto, as is clearly indicated in Figs. 2 and 3, especially the latter.
When the device is in condition for use, its lower ends are introduced into suitable sockets provided in the side rails or end portions 16 of a cot or bed, or like article ol" furniture. I
In the drawings the especial form of cot comprises a frame supported by downwardly inclined end legs 17, and intermediate legs 18, that are brought together beneath the central portion of the frame in the form of a V, as is illustrated in Fig. 1.
Ropes or cords are attached to the end portions ofthe frame of the cot illustrated, and these ropes or cords 19 are anchored by means of suitable pins 20. The mosquito net consisting of a top 21, sides 22 and ends 23 is thrown over the supports when the latter are in position, l and the said netting may be secured in any suitable or shape may be given to the body portions of said mem' approved vmzuin'er to the side and end 4portions of the frame of the cot or bed, or the lower edges of the netting may be left free.
l Having thus described lmy invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,-
1. A mosquito net support, consisting of upper members pivotally connected at their upper ends and rvhaving eyes at the lower ends, lower members passing through the eyes of the upper members, said lower members having eyes at their upper ends through which the upper members pass, said upper and lower members being bent whereby to permit the upper members to take an inclined position with respect to the lower members.
2. A mosquito net support consistingof upper members pivotally connected and lower members slidably connected with the upper members, the upper members having eyes formed at their lower ends, inclined in direction of each other, and lower members being provided with eyes at their upper ends extending in reverse direction to the eyes of the upper members, the eyes of the lower members being adapted for engagement with the eyes of the upper members when the frame members are in position for use. 3. A mosquito net support consisting of two upper members pivotally connected, each upper member being -provided with an eye at its lower end, the said eyes being elongated and inclined downwardly and inwardly, and two lower members, each of which is passed through the lower eye of the upper members, each lower member being provided with an elongated eye at its upper end inclined upwardly and outwardly, the body portions of the upper members passing through said eyes, whereby when the lower members are drawn fully downward the eyes of said upper members by engagement ot' the lower eyes of the upper members produce a strengthening locking contact.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANCIS DELOS RAIIELEE.
