CARLS ROSS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FOLDING CRIB Application filed. April 11, 1908.
To all whom it may' concern:
Be it lrnown that l, OARLs Ross, a citizen ol the United States, residing at New York, in the county ol New Yorlr and State olI New York, have invented new and useful linprovements in Folding Cribs, o'l' which the l'ollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to cribs and more particularly to vfolding er collapsible cribs which when not in use are by means ol' certain hinged parts collapsed so as to occupy a minimum amount ol' space, the particular il'eature oi' the invention being the collapsible head and l'oot pieces which are more l'ully described in the following specification, set lorth in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, where:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved crib. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view showing the crib partly 'folded The crib is supported at each end by the crossed legs 5 which are pivoted at a central point 6 and at their upper ends have attached to them a leal' ol' the hinges 7, the other leall being secured to the side pieces 8 made up ol' horizontal bars 9, vertical rods 10 and cord posts 11.
The bottom of the bed comprises two hinged sections 12 which 'l'old upward and are composed of the end pieces 13 and the connecting bars 14. The end pieces are connected by the middle hinges 15 and their ends are connected with the lower side bars 9 by means ol' the hinges 16. This allows the crib to be 'folded as partly shown in Fig. 2 but it may be more completely collapsed by bringing the legs more closely together.
The head and foot pieces 1.7 and 18 are made oi' flexible material such as canvas or rubber cloth and are carried by rollers 19 and 20, the latter being spring rollers o'll the ordinary curtain type which roll the fabric upon themselves when the sides o'l' the crib are be- Specicaton of Letters Patent.

ing folded together. As will be seen in Fig. 2 the side pieces are adapted to move toward each other in parallel positions so that the flexible ends are easily wound about the rollers.
As long as a child is lying in the crib there is no danger ol its collapse because ol' the weight on the bottom 12 depressing the end pieces 13 and forcing the side pieces and legs outward and it is only `when the crib is empty that it may be closed.
The spring rollers require no retaining pawl when the pieces 17 are extended but are lree to unroll or roll the end pieces as the crib is uniolded or folded.
A collapsible crib constructed in accordance with this invention is simple, cheap and substantial, and it is obvious that alterations may be made in the details oll the crib withe out departing 'from the essential Features above described.
YWhat l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In a 'folding crib, the combination with crossed legs connected by pivots, ol side pieces hinged at top ol' same, a bottom hinged to the side pieces and divided in the middle so as to Alod and iiexible end pieces carried by rollers and adapted to automatically wind on same when the crib is folded.
2. In a `folding crib, the combination with crossed legs adapted to fold, ol' side pieces hinged to same, a l'olding bottom hinged to the side pieces, automatic spring rollers on the side pieces, and end pieces oll iexible material adapted to wind on the rollers when the crib is folded.
ln testimony whereoll l affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OARLS ROSS.
