IRONING BOARD.
No. 275,836. Patented Apr-.111883.
Fi G.' Z
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACKSON MCOLlNTIOK, OF MILLBURY, OHIO.
IRONING-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,836, dated April 17, 1883.
Application filed March B, 1883. (No model.)
To all vwhom it may concern Be it known that I, JAcKsoN McCLINTIcK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Millbury, in the county of Wood and State ot' Ohio, have invented a new and useful Ironing-Board, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to folding` ironing tables or stands; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved ironing-table extended. Fig.2is alongitndinal vertical sectional View ofthe same. Fig. 3 is a side view of the table folded, and Figxl is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the same.
The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.
In the drawings, A represents the main or vertical standard, which is provided at its upper end with a transverse cleat, B.
C is the top or leaf of the table, which is provided on its under side, near its rear end, with a transverse cleat, D, which is connected to the cleat B by hinges E.
F is a diagonal supportingbar, which is hinged to the side ot' the upright A, just below the cleat B.
G is a brace hinged to the bar F, about the middle ofthe same, and adapted to rest against a transverse cleat, H, under the top or leaf C, near the front end ofthe latter, thus supporting the said top or leaf in a horizontalposition when the table is extended.
I is a brace pivoted to one side of the standard A, near the lower end of the latter, and provided with a slot, J, slidingover a stud, K, upon the side of the diagonal supporting-bar F. The outer end of the said slot has a notch, L, by which it may be hooked over the stud K, so as to retain the brace in position when the table is extended.
rEhe operation of my invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in' connection with the drawings hereto annexed. theleaf is first raised, and the brace Gr is then lifted and placed against the cleat H. The rear end ofthe bar F is then lifted, so as to unfold the standard A and brace I. When the table is thus extended it is impossible for the brace G to becolne disengaged, partly because it folds back and partly because the topleafrests upon the cleat B, and is thus prevented from being raised so long as the standard A is in position. An'exceedingly strong, steady, and well-braced table is thus produced. When the table is folded the cleats B and D space the standard A and top O, so as to allow the braces F and G to fold in between them, thus causing the table when folded to occupy but very little space.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- As an improvement in folding ironingstands, the combination of the standard A, having cleat B, the top or leaf C, having cleat D, hinged to the cleat B, and provided on its under side, near its free end, with a transverse cleat, H, the bar F, hinged to the standardA, below the cleat B, the brace G, hinged to the bar F, and adapted to rest against the cleat H, the stud K upon the side of bar F, and the slotted brace I, pivoted to the side of standard A and sliding over the stud Kand having a notch, L, engaging the latter when the table is extended, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
J AGKSON MCGLINTIGK.
