G. 1).. FILE. Ironing Board.
Patented Aug. 17,1880.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE D. FILE, OF WEST PITTSTON, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND AMOS Y. SMITH.
lRONlNG-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 231,298, dated August 1'7, 1880, Application filed April 20, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that d, GEORGE D. FILE, a citizen of the United States, residing at West Pittston, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Ironing- Boards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to that class of ironing boards or tables the legs and frame of which are capable of being folded and locked, so that the board may be easily transported, and also occupy a small space when not in use; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the various parts thereof, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the table ready for use. Fig. 2 is a bottom-plan view of the same when folded. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 00 00, and Fig. 4 a section taken on the line 3 y of Fig. 2.
A represents the ironing -board, which is hinged at its broader end to the upper crosspicce, F, its other end resting on the crosspiece F, and having a mortise, d, on its under surface, which receives a pin, d, on the top of said cross-piece, and thus serves to assist in steadyin g the board and keeping it in place.
The legs B B are attached to the cross-pieces F F, and are also connected by the lower crosspieces, D D.
A slotted rail, (3, which is hinged to and connects the cross-pieces D D, is provided with spring-stops b b, which hold the braces E E in position, so as to steady the table when it is opened for use. These braces E E are hinged to the upper cross-pieces, F F, at one end, while the lower end of each is provided with a suitable guide-piece, e, and when necessary will move freely in the slots 0. a.
When it is desired to fold the table the board A is raised far enough to disengage it from the pin d on the cross-piece F, when, by pressing down the spring-stops b b the hinged braces E E are released, and may be caused to move in the slots a a, toward the opposite ends of said slots, until the frame of the table is folded and brought into line with the board A, as shown in Fig. 2. In this position the button 0 on the cross-piece F will enter the small slot 0 in the rail 0, and may be turned so as to lock the parts together.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a folding ironing-table, the combination of the hinged board A, upper cross-pieces, F F, legs B B, lower cross-pieces, D D, slotted rail 0, extending between said lower crosspieees and having spring-stops b b, and the braces E E, hinged to the upper cross-pieces and provided with guides c c, all constructed and arranged as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE D. FILE.
