SVEN SVENSON, OF LA CROSSE, \VISCONSIN.
BOT-FASTENEB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 6, 1911.
Application filed January 9, 1911. Serial No. 601,759.
To all wi om it may concern:
lie it known that I, Svnx SVEIZSON, citizen of the United States. residing at La Frosse. .Yiseonsin, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Box-Fasteners. of which the following is a specification. I
My invention is designed to provide a fastener for display fronts for boxes adapted to contain crackers. fruit or the like, the front being attractive and ornamental and adapted to be applied to the ordinary box while it is in use, and shifted from the old to a new box when the contents of the first box are exhausted.
In carrying out my invention I utilize a front of glass and a handsome frame of wood or metal, ornamented in an attractive manner. and in order that this shall be readily applied and removed to the ordinary container I provide a detachable connection carried bv the ornamental front as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawing, Figure l is a front view of a box having my improved display frontearried tnereby. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the front of the box showing my fastener device, and Fig. 3 is an elevation of the fastener.
In the drawing A represents the box which is of ordinary construction contain :ing fruit, crackers or the like, and covering the open end of the box is a display front B, which is composed of glass held in a wooden or metal frame appropriately ornamented. In order to make the display front readily removabie so as to adapt it to be taken from one box and applied to another, I secure to the dispiay front at two or more points. a removable fastening device. This consists of a clip a which is adapted to be fastened to the front along the edge thereof, as shown in Fig. 2, by screws or nails and projections b, or if desired itmay not be secured but simply depend upon the pressure of the parts and projections 7) to hold the fastener in place. The clip has vertical parallel ears 0 provided with verti al slots. and these serve as a guide to the horizontally bent end (I, of a hooked retainer 0, the lower end of which has a sharp hook f which is adapted to be forced into the wood, as shown, when the horizontal portion a is in the lower part of the slots. In order to force the hook into the wood and apply a sutlicientpressure to the display top to hold it in place, I provide a; cam lever g, which fits between the vertical ears of the clip also having parallel portions and engaging the horizontal extension of the hook lever. The openings through the parallel portions of the cam lever are arranged eccentrically of the ends of the lever so that when the lever is given half turn it has the effect of lifting the end of the hooked lever applying sutiicient pressure thereto to tightly clamp the displa front upon the box. The cam lever is readily manipulated to release the front when it is desired to shift it to another box.
hat I claim is I A box fastener comprising a clip having parallel ears each having a longitudinal slot therein. a member having a sharp hook at one end and its other end bent and passing through said slots and held therein, and a cam lever having its cam part between the ears and engaging with the bent end to move the same within the slots, so that the book will engage and disengage with the side of the box.
In testimony whereof, I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
