HERMANN DRING, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
vAULT-COVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 9, 1911.
Application led February 21, 1910. Serial No. 545,169.
VTo all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMANN DRING, of Georgenstrasse 10, Berlin, Germany, subject of the German Emperor, have invented new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Vault-Covers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide the well-known street-shafts or pillars serving to receive collecting-vessels, with a closing-device which, when opened, makes it easy for the street-sweeper to sweep the dust into the shaft.
The accompanying drawing shows the new closing-device in Figure l in a section, and in Fig. 2 in a top-view. Fig. 3 is a top plan view after the removal of the small lid. Fig. 4 is a section through lid d and the inclined plane formed integrally therewith, and Fig. 5 is a detail top plan view.
The receptacle for the sweepings or the dust-bin b hangs on the flanges of the coverframe c. In this frame are arranged two lids. The lid l covers the whole shaft and can be turned down toward the sidewalk. Itpossesses a slanting hole e.
The smaller lid f covers an opening in the large lid (Z, it has its joint on the side of the carriage-road and is hinged to the frame at the outer end of the opening e. When closed it covers the opening e. In its opened state it forms a bridge overthe street-gutter toward the carriage-road, over which the street-sweeper can sweep the dirt from the carriage-road through the opening e into the receptacle The length and breadth of the lid j must be in keeping with this purpose.
The street-sweeper uses as a rule only the smaller lid.
What I claim is:
A device of the character described, comprising a lid adapted to close a sewer shaft, a frame within the shaft to which said lid is hinged, supporting a bin for receiving the sweepings suspended from said frame, an opening in said lid at one end of the same, an inclined plane extending from the outer end of the opening toward the center of the lid directly beneath the opening and slanting toward the inner part of said opening, a second lid pivotally connected to the frame at the outer end of the opening, forming in closed position a part of said first lid, snugly, tting into the opening thereof to effect a tight closure, and adapted when opened t-o swing across the gutter for forming a bridge across the same, so as to facilitate the conveyance of sweepings across the gutter to the receptacle within the sewer.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HERMANN DRING.
Witnesses HANS LAMINER, HENRY HAsPER.
