To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, HENRY J. MINIOH and DANIEL C. MINICH, citizens of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Refuse-Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to refuse receptacles, and has for its primary object to provide a receptacle of this character wherein the same is detachably and swingingly supported so that it can be removed from the support, and on the dumping of the con tents thereof it will automatically return to normal position for receiving refuse or other materials.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a receptacle of this character which can be readily and quickly dumped for the discharge of its contents, and when in normal position for receiving refuse and other material will be closed to prevent the escape of odors therefrom.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a receptacle which is simple in construction, reliable and efiicient in use, and inexpensive in manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

In the drawing :-Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a fence showing the receptacle constructed in accordance with the invention supported thereon. Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional View through the receptacle and fence, showing by full lines the normal position of said receptacle, and by dotted lines the dumping position. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary elevation.

ignates a portion of a fence for inclosing a yard or serving as a partition between the yard and an alley, the said fence being formed with an opening B through which is adapted to swing the receptacle hereinafter fully described.

Mounted on the fence A at opposite sides of the opening B therein areangle bearings 5 and in the free ear 6 of each is formed an L-shaped slot 7 for detachably receiving the stud journal 8 at each side of the receptacle 9, which is in the form of a box-like body having an upper open end which is diagonally cut to form a sloping portion 10, and this receptacle 9 is adapted to swing through the opening B from normal upright position for the dumping of its contents.

Secured above the opening B to the fence A is a cleat 11, to which is fixed the hinge 12 of a raising and lowering lid orcover section 13 adapted to close the upper open end of the receptacle 9 when in normal upright position, the lid or cover 13 being readily raised when it is desired to deposit refuse or other materials therein.

Mounted in the wall next to the opening B in the receptacle 9 is an eye member 14 to which is loosely connected a handle 15 so that the said receptacle can be manually pulled through the opening B to dumping position, whereby the contents therein will automatically discharged therefrom. By reason of the disposition of the stud journals 8 on the receptacle 9 the same will automatically swing to normal upright position after being relieved of its contents, as will be clearly apparent. The receptacle can be readily detached from the bearings 5 should it be desired to clean the same, and when said receptacle is in normal upright position the lid 13 closes its open upper end so as to prevent the escape of odors therefrom.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and manner of operation of the device will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
