To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, JOHN P. BELL and GLENN D. SOHLANGER, citizens of the United States, residing at Weir, in the county of Cherokee and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Garment-Hangers, of which the following 1s a specification.

This invention relates to combined coat and trousers hangers and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be simple and cheap in construction and which will be efiicient and durable for the purpose.

A further object of the invention is the provision of novel means for securing the trousers in position upon the hanger whereby they will hang evenly and without creasing and whereby the coat may be removed without removing the trousers.

Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description isread in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which:

Referring more particularly to the device 1 represents the head which is provided with the usual hook 2 for engagement with any suitable support.

The device is constructed of one piece of material and preferably of wood, the head having the diverging arms 3 whose extremities are connected together by the bridge piece 4. The arms are tapered oil as is usual to fit the shoulders of the coat and vest and are rounded on top in cross section so as to present surfaces to the coat or vest which will not crease the same. Adjacent the connection of the bridge piece, the right-hand arm is slotted as at 5 to receive the pivoting end of a clamping rod 6. This pivoting Specification of Letters Patent.

end is apertured to receive a pivot bolt or screw 7 and the entire length of the rod is preferably covered with a cushioning tube of rubber or other suitable material. The opposite or left hand arm is provided with an inwardly and upwardly extending recess 8 which is adapted to receive the spring loop 9 of a catch 10. The mouth of the loop is slightly constricted as shown in Fig. 4c so that the end of the clamping rod 6 has to be forced past the constricted mouth to enter the loop 9. It is thus held in position within the loop against casual or accidental displacement and to remove the rod it is necessary to use some force to spring the sides of the loop apart and in practice this will be accomplished by wedging the rod into or out of engagement with the loop.

The trousers are applied to the device by placing the waist band or the cuff over the bridge piece and then swinging the rod 6 around into engagement with the clamp 10. The trousers are thus clamped in position and prevented from disengagement and will hang straight down either from the band or from the cuff thereby preventing creases and holding the trousers in proper shape.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, is

A device of. the class described comprising a supporting head, a pair of diverging arms formed integral with said head, a

bridge piece formed integral with the extremities of said arms, and connecting the same, a clamping rod pivoted to one of said arms, and a catch for the opposite end of said rod comprising'a spring loop seated in a recess formed in the opposite arm, and having a constricted mouth, said clamp being constructed of spring metal secured to said arm.
