No. 835,481. PATENTED NOV. 6, 1906.. A. M. TAYLOR.
TROUSERS SUPPORT. APPLICATION FILED 0011s, 1905.
W/TNESSES: INVENTOH THE NORRIS PETERS 0a., wnsmnamu, n. c. W
ANDREW M. TAYLOR, OF
PATENT OFFICE.
PORT EWEN. NEW YORK.
TROUSERS-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 6, 1906.
Original application filed February 17, 1905, Serial No. 246,080. Divided and this application filed October 16, 1905. Serial No. 282.977.
T0 (tZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ANDREW M. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Port Ewen, in the county of Ulster and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Trousers-Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, this being a division of Letters Patent No. 802,245, granted to me October 17th, 1905, for a portable garment-hanger.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and im roved trousers-support which is simple and durable in construction, cheap to manufacture, easily manipulated for placing the trousers in position on the support or removing the same therefrom and arranged to clamp the waistband of the trousers in position, so that the trousers hang naturally down from the support, to avoid folding and consequent undesirable doubling up and creasing of the trousers.
The invention consists of novel features and arts and combinations of the same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed'out in the claim.
A practical embodiment of the invention, is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement in a closed position, and Fig. 2 is a like view of the same open.
The trousers-support H is made of a single piece of wire bent to form the longitudinal members H H and H, of which the upper member H is provided with an eye H for suspending the trousers-support from a hook or like device. The mid le or clamping member H is a continuation of the longitudinal member H*, the said longitudinal member bein bent around the cross member H as cleary shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The free end of the clamping member H is ada ted to engage a spring-clasp H", formed by bending the lower longitudinal member upward near its junction with the opposite cross member, the said free end engaging between the projection and the cross member. By the arrangement described the clamping member H can be readily opened to permit the placing of the waistband of the trousers in position between the members H and H. The wrapping of the attached end of the clamping member H around the cross member H acts somewhat in the manner of a coiled spring, tending to open the clampingmember when it is released from the spring-clasp.
When it is desired to remove the trousers, it is only necessary for the operator to take hold of the free end of the clamping member H and disengage the same from the springclasp H to allow of swinging the clamping member H transversely, so that the.waist band of the trousers can be readily disengaged from the support.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the device is very simple and durable in construction, can be cheaply manufactured and readily used, and takes up very little room.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentpiece of wire bent to form longitudinal members connected by cross members and a clamping member swinging upon one of said cross members, one of said longitudinal members being bent to form an eye for susending the support and the other of said ongitudinal members being bent upward adjacent to its junction with one of said cross members to form a projection extending toward the opposite longitudinal member, the free end of the clamping member engaging between the projection and the cross member adjacent thereto whereby. to retain the trousers upon the support, and the attached end being wrapped around the other cross member. whereby to spring the clam ing member open when released from the c asp.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANDREW M. TAYLOR.
