Description

,duin-1l getti-tt @anni @titille Letters .Patent No. 97,468, dated November 30, 1869.
I MPROVED BEDSTEAD-PASTENING.
Th Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern Be it known tht LNICKOLAS ZINS, of Evansville, ,A
in theconnty of Vanderburg, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and improved Bed-Fastening: and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will'enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specilioation, in which- Figure 1 is a 'face view of my improved bed-fasten` mg. p y
Figure 2 is a .vertical section of the same, taken through the line a; x, fig. 1, and showing it attached to a post of a bedstead.
Figure 3 is a cross-section of the same, taken thronghthe `line y y, fig. 2.
Similar letters ot reference indicate corresponding parts. v l v My invention nas for its object' to furnish a simple, strong, durable, and convenient fastening for connect,- ingthe rails to the posts of' a'bedstead, and one which shall be so constructed as to be held securely in 'place-without screws or other fastenings; and
It consists in the fasteningl constrncted as hereinafterV more fully described.
A 'is the fastening, which is cast in about the shape shown in gs. 1, 2,3.
In the face ofthe fastening are formed two, more or less, cross-shaped holes, toreceive and hold the heads of the bolts or catches attached to the ends' of the, rails of the bedstead.
The rear edges oi' the sides of the fastening are made curved, so thatit can be slippedinto and ont of the recess formed in the post of the bedstead.
` Upon the lower endrand the sides of the rear curved edges of -the fastening A is formed a bead or flange, al, which ts into or forms a groove in-the recess formed in the post of the bedstead to receive' it, so
thatv it cannot be drawn ont of its place by any downwardor horizontal strain.
The fastening can only be detached `from the post of the bedstcad by driving it upward ont of the recess in which it is placed.
The lower end of the fastening A is made thick, and its upper end tapering to on edge, so that when driven into its place, its' face may be flush wit-lr the surface of the post with which it is connected.
Upon the inner sideof the lower parts of the crossshaped slots in the face of the fastening A are formed ,inclined iiauges or projections, a?, against which the heads ofthe bolts or cato-hes rest, so that when forced down to their places they may draw the ends of the rails close up to the postsand hold them firmly, making a stili and close joint.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentl y A bed-fastening, A, having two or more bolteholes, two bevelled flanges a?, and two inclined projections, a?, each of said parts being arranged with respect to the other, as set forth. r 4
The above specification of my invention signed by me., this 29th. day of September, 1869.
" NIGKOLAS ZINS.
