UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS JEAN MAXIMILIEN DELAVEAU, OF GRENOBLE, FRANCE.
SYSTEM FOR CLOSING BOOTS BY MEANS OF SPRING-BUTTONS.
Application filed November 20, 1909.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs JEAN MAXI- MILIEN DELAVEAU, a citizen of the French Republic, and resident of Grenoble, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Systems for Closing Boots by Means of Spring-Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new system for closing boots or for buttoning boots by means of spring-buttons. Hitherto it has been difiicult to use spring-buttons for buttoning boots because a tight fit is ditficult to obtain.
In the accompanying drawings a boot upper with spring-buttons and the means for facilitating the buttoning is shown in Figures 1 and 2 in elevation open and half buttoned respectively. Fig. 3 is a side elevation representing the male part of the spring button, which is shown in Fig. 4 in a top plan view and in Fig. 5 as seen from below.
According to the present invention the male part A of the spring button is fixed upon the lower flap B of the boot-upper C and the female part D of the spring button is fixed in the upper or outer fiap E of the boot-upper. To said upper or outer flap E a piece F of thin leather is attached, which has along its outer edge buttonholes G and is destined to be buttoned on the male parts A of the spring buttons, flap E of the bootupper being hereupon fixed to the lower flap Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 18, 1910.
Serial No. 529,154.
B by means of the spring buttons, the female parts D of the same being simply pressed upon the male parts A which can be easily I done as the proper and tight position of the upper flap E is insured by the use of the auxiliary piece F which has been buttoned upon the male parts A of the spring buttons. Said male parts A of the spring buttons which are shown in Figs. 3 to 5 of the drawings, consist of the ballshaped head part A, the stem I and the base plate K with prongs M destined to be pushed through the leather of the boot to be bent inwardly toward the base plate for fixing the male part of the spring button to the boot.
I claim A shoe having in combination an upper and fastening means therefor, said means including a ball and socket fastener having the ball portion attached to the inner flap of said upper and the socket portion attached to the outer flap of said upper, and also including an auxiliary fiap of thin leather attached to the inner side of said outer flap and provided with button holes adapted to cooperate with the ball port-ion of said fasteners.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS JEAN MAXIMILIEN DELAVEAU.
