ANTON MITLEHNER,
PATENT @FFTCE.
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DETACHABLE HEEL.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jan, 10, 191 1.
Application filed July 19, 1919. Serial No. 572,951.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTON MITLEHNER, citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detachable Heels, of which the following is a specification.
lhe present invention relates to detachable heels for boots and shoes, and has for its object to. provide a device, whereby a heel may be readily attached to or detached from a shoe or boot.
Vith this object in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of parts, to be hereinafter fully specified.
In the drawing, similar reference letters denote corresponding parts and Figure l is a bottom view of a shoe provided with the new means for the attachment of a heel; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the heel provided with means adapted to cooperate with the first named means for the attachment thereof; Fig.3 is a cross section on line 33 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a section on line 44l of Fig. 5 and Fig. 5 is a side view of the heel portion of a shoe or boot, showing the heel fastened in position.
In the drawing, which forms a part of this specification, a denotes a part of the shoe or boot, which is formed with a heel portion 6, to which the heel proper c is to be removably attached. This heel portion 5 is provided with a groove 01, (Fig. 3), which has a curved circumference, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1 and which opens toward the sole portion of the shoe or boot (Fig. 4:). Fixed in said groove, as at e, is a spring f consistin of a double armed wire or the like, the en s f of which are adapted to project outward through the open end of the groove and form grasps (Fig. 5),whereby the spring f may be compressed, in order to release the heel from the shoe, as will be hereinafter fully explained. Suitably fixed to the bottom of said heel portion 1) to cover its groove (5 is a metal plate 9 substantially conforming with said portion 6 in shape and size. This plate has a plurality of holes or slots h opening into the groove d and arranged crosswise to the heel in two rows (Fig. 1) so as to lie in the path of the arms of the spring 7". The heel proper c has attached to its upper or inner surface a metal plate '11, which is formed. by punching or otherwise with hook-shaped projections j arranged in two rows similar to the holes or slots IL and adapted to pass through the latter into the groove (Z to be engaged therein by the arms of the spring f, whereby the heel proper is locked in position to the heel portion 1) 0f the shoe. From the inner edge of the plate 2' extends a projection 70, serving as agrasp, whereby upon the contraction of the spring ftllll-S heel can be removed.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a shoe or boot, a permanent heel portion having a groove which opens toward the sole of the shoe, spring arms fixed in said groove and the free ends of which project outward from the end opening thereof, a
d plate fixed to said heel portion and having two rows of openings arranged in the path of the spring arms, and a heel proper having hook projections adapted to register with and fit in said holes and to be engaged by the spring arms.
Signed at New York and State of New York.
