J. P. GORDON.
AUTOMOBILI; ROBE.
APPLIUATION Hmm Muz. 191o.

JOHN IP. GORDON, OF COL'UMBUS, OHIO.
AUTOMOBILE-ROBE.
Specification of Letters atent.
Patented Nov. 29, 1910.
Application file May 2, 1910. Serial No. 558,884.
To all Iwhom ti 'may concem:
Be it known that I, JOHN P. GoRDoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oolumbus, 'in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automobile- Robes, of which the following is a specificaton.
This invention has reference to certain new and useful improvements in automobile robes and to a new and improved mode of securing such robes about the person of the wearer.
One of the objects of the present invention, is the production of an article of the character described, that is adapted to cover the feet and lower part of the body, which can be properly secured about the waist and feet, that is impervious to water and will permit sufficient movement of the feet to enable the wearer to enter the Vehicle or to alight therefrom when the robe is secured about him.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the inner surface of the robe, Fig. 2 is an external or front view of the same, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the back of the robe as fastened about the wearer, Fig. 4 is a front view of the same, Fig. 5 is a detail view of one of the shoe soles, Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of one of the shoe uppers, Fi 7 is a detail perspective view of one o' the counters, Fig. 8 is a detail sectional View showing the attachment 'of the shoe sole to the upper, and Fig. 9 is an edge view partly in section through the line a-a of Fg. 1.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts in all the drawings.
On one side of an ordinary lap robe A is attached a sheet of rubber cloth B or other material impervious to water. Roomy shoes of the same material as the robe are formed with the robe adj acent to the edge D thereof and spaced sufficiently apart to permit the wearer to make a short step. A strap F bearing clasps G adapted to engage fasteners H is attached to the upper edge K of the robe, convenient to the left hand of the wearer. Similar fastenings at L and M secure the corners of the robe about the counters N of the shoes. The sole O of the shoe is ellptical in form and made of leather or other suitable material and is secured to the upper C by rvets P.
To use my improved robe, the wearer steps into the shoes O and unites the clasps M with their engagements L, the strap F is passed around the body engaging the clasps G and I-I at the appropriate degree of tightness as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
By means of this arrangement, the robe is essentially formed into a garment, which can be quicklv put off and on, which permits suflicient freedom of movement to the feet to enable the wearer to enter a Vehicle and to alight therefrom and which does not become readily disengaged from the person of the wearer.
I-Iaving thus fully described my inventon, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- A robe comprising a body portion, a waterproof sheet covering one side of said body portion, shoes for said robe, means for connecting the shoes at the instep to the lower edge of the robe, devices for fastening the corners of the robe about the back of the shoes, and means for fastening the upper portion of the robe about the body of the wearer.
In testmony whereof I have aflxed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J OHN P. GORDON.
