Toall whom it magma/Mam:
Be it known thfltL-I', SEPTIMA ALugoPP, a citizen of the United States residing at Cleveland, in the county of State of Ohio, have invented a new anduseful Combined Gaiter and Over-shoe; of'
which the following is a specification.
M invention relates to protecting means for oots or shoes and consists in a novel and efficient combined gaiter and rubber shoe. having many features of advantage and utility as hereinafter made apparent. I
Speaking in general terms In overshoe consists of a gaiter portion an a rubber shoe minus th'heel, together with a fast-ening means or strap for securing the shank of the sole of the rubber shoe against the corresponding portion of the regular boot or shoe to which it isapplied thereby sealing the rubber shoe. at that point and adjacent the heel of the regular boot or shoe, the overshoe. being also sealed around the upper portion of the heel of the boot .or shoe by the upper portion of the rubber shoe.
In the drawing Figure lis a side elevation of my combined gaiter and rubber shoe shown applied to an ordinary shoe; Fig. 2 a side elevation of the opposite side thereof; Fig. 3 a bottomplan view; Fig. 4 an elevation of my combined gaiter and shoe shown detached from the boot or shoe and Fig. 5 a detail section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3, the same being on a somewhat larger scale.
Referring to the present embodiment of my invention as shown in the drawing my combined gaiter and shoe comprises essentially the gaiter portion 1 and rubber shoe portion 2, the former being secured at its lower edges in suitable manner to the upper edges of the rubber shoe. The gaiter'portion which maybe made of suitable material, preferably of a waterproof character and of any desired color, is adaptedto be opened on oneside but to be fastened in suitable manner as by means of the buttons 3. The rubber shoe portion is substantially the same as ,an ordinar cept that it has no heel. ut the upper portion 2" which corresponds to the upper part of the heel portionis retained and has a side opening corresponding to theside openmg in the gaiter portion 1. The rubber shoe is also provided with a flap 2 which is an extension of the shank 2 of its sole. This-shank and flap are adapted to be held .uyahoga and of the boot or shoe. For the tightly securing the under portion of the rubber shoe extightly against the under portion of the boot or shoeindicated in dotted lines at 4, the shank of the rubber shoe against the corresponding portion of the boot or shoe and the flap against the breast of the heel 4* purpose of shoe to the regular boot or shoe and thereby sealing the same thereat, andfor also holding the overshoe upon the boot or shoe I provide suitable means which in this instance consists of a strap 5 and buckle 6 which are here shown as attached to opposite sides of the gaiter portion. This strap extends below the shank 2 and has the eflfect of holding such shank and the flap 2? against the shoe for the purposes stated. By employing a strap and buckle I am enabled to cause the overshoe to fit upon any size or form of shoe and yet obtain the desired sealing at the points mentioned. By preference the strap 5 is secured intermediate its length to the shank 2 so that the end of the strap will always be projected adjacent the buckle for convenient manipulation and will also draw the shank tightly against the regular boot or shoe when the strap isbuckled.
The overshoe is also sealed at the upper portion of the heel 4" of the regular boot or shoe inasmuch as I retain the upper part of the heel portion 2* of the rubber shoe so that when the gaiter is buttoned up the overshoe is efi'ectually sealed at every point.'
My overshoe can be very readily applied and detached and is moreover extremely light and at the same time very serviceable and absolutely water-tight. Moreover, the construction and arrangement is such that it may be applied to or fitted upon any boot or shoe within reasonable limits without affecting its water-tight quality. Furthermore, the gaiter portion may be made of any desired color and may be water-proofed or not, as may'be desired. v
I claim:
1.' A combined overshoe and gaiter comprisin an overshoe without a heel, a gaiter secure thereto, said overshoe having a flap portion at the end of the shank portion of its sole, and means for holding such flap against the breast of the heel of the regular shoe to which the overshoe is applied.
2. A combined overshoe and gaiter comprising an overshoe without a heel, a gaiter secured thereto, said overshoe having a flap ortion at the end .of the shank portion of its sole", and astrap andbuckledevice for holding such shank portion against the corresponding portion of the regular shoe and;
5 for holding the flap against the breast of'the heel of the latter shoe.
' 3. A combined overshoe and gaiter comprising an overshoe without a heel, a gaiter secured thereto, said overshoe having a flap 10 portion at the end of the shank portion of its sole, and a strap and buckledevice seagainst t cured it. the gaiter for holding such shankportion against the corresponding 7 portion shank of the sole of the overshoe.
