'T..SOHNEIDER.
SHOE FASTENING. No; 498,579. Patented May 30, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEODOR SCHNEIDER, OF VIENNA, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
SHOE-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 498,579, dated May-30, 1893. Application filed June 24, 1892. fierial No. 437,867. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, THEODOR SCHNEIDER, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and aresident of Vien'na,in the Empire ofAustria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastenings for Shoes, Boots, Gloves, and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an improved fastener for shoes, boots, gloves and the like.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows the fastener in sectional side view and Fig. 2 in plan view, both about treble the natural size.
A is the plate to which the circumferentially grooved roller 0 is riveted.
B is the lace passing over the roller. The rivet d passing through the roller 0 is riveted at its upper end to the said roller and at its lower end to the plate A. The plate A is provided with the projection f which prevents the escape of the lace, and by means of the rivet g at its lower part the said plate A may be attached to the flap i of the boot or the like with aid the of an annular disk h.
I am aware that shoe-lacers and shoe-fasteners exist in which rollers are used which are held by bent arms or plates embracing and covering the top of the rollers. But according to the present invention the roller is held to the plate beneath it solely by means of the rivet d, so that the plate A does not cover the top of the roller but has merely a projection f to prevent the escape of thelace.
In comparison with the saidknown constructions my invention has several advantages, particularly, no thin plates which are liable to be bent in use and have sharp edges liable to fray the lace, trousers and other materials
