Description

J. L. DUNNOUK.
SHAKER BOTTLE.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 3, 1910.

wwm b JOHN L. DUNNOCK, 0F BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
SHAKER-BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 26, 1910.
Application. filed May 3, 1910. Serial No. 559,163.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. DUNNOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Shaker-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in bottles, and particularly to that class of bottles known as shaker or sprinkler'botties, usually adapted for use as a container for perfumes, toilet waters, hair tonics and the like, and has for its object to provide a bottle of this character that by inverting the bottle and giving it a vacillating motion the contents may be sprinkled from the bottle on the object desired, and when not in use may be readily sealed to the prevention of the evaporation of the contents.
The further object of the invention being to provide a bottle of this character wherein the metal parts usually used in the construction of bottles for similar purposes are eliminated, the metal parts being particularly objectionable by reason of their tendency to corrode, and rendered so, to a great extent by reason of the natureof the contents with which the bottles are filled coming in contact with the parts.
With the foregoing objects in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction, arrangement and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
The accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, illustrates a bottle in elevation partly in longitudinal section.
A, indicates the body of the bottle, made of any suitable size, shape or material, but preferably of glass, having a neck 1, within which, and located a predetermined distance from the mouth 2, is provided a shoulder 3, the neck of the bottle above the shoulder being inwardly threaded at 4.
. 5 indicates a hollow cap, made from any suitable material, preferably glass, threaded at 6, for the purpose of engaging with the threaded portion l of the bottle neck into which it is adapted to be secured. Into the recess 7 of the cap is secured a packing 8, made from any suitable material, preferably cork, the purpose of which will be hereinafter explained.
Secured within the-neck 1, is a nipple or nozzle 9, made from any suitable material, preferably glass, having the usual opening 10, extending therethrough, and exteriorly provided with a shoulder 11; secured around the nipple or nozzle below the shoulder is a sleeve 12, made from any suitable resilient material, preferably cork, the nozzle or nipple bein inserted within the neck l, with the shou der ll, engaging with the shoulder 3, in the neck, thereby limiting theinsertion of the nozzle in the neck, the nozzle being held in this position by the frictional contact of the sleeve 12, with the inner wall 13 of the neck and the nipple or nozzle, which also forms a packing to prevent leakage be tween these parts.
My device is operated as follows; the bottle A is first filled, the nipple or nozzle is then secured in the neck in the manner hereinbefore described, thevcap is then screwed within the neck with the cork packing engaging with and closing the opening 10 of the nozzle and closing it. When desired to usethe bottle for discharging the contents therefrom, the cap is removed by unscrewing it from within the neck, and the bottle shaken in an inverted position, when the contents will be sprinkled upon the desired object.
Slight changes and alteration might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts herein described, without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction as herein set forth; but,
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is;
1. In a bottle of the character described, the combination with a neck having a shoulder provided within its upper end portion, and threads provided Within the end portion above the said shoulder, a nozzle having a shoulder provided thereon adapted to seat upon the said shoulder Within the said neck, a cap adapted to be secured within the said neck, and means within the cap for closing the said nozzle, substantially as described.
2. In a bottle of the character described, the combination with a neck, having an inner threaded end portion, and a shoulder provided within the neck below said threaded end portion, a nozzle having a shoulder thereon supported by the said shoulder in the neck, a resilient sleeve secured around the nozzle below the said shoulder thereon, a threaded cap secured within the said neck,
semen and means Within the cap for closing the said nozzle, substantially as described.
3. In a bottle of the character described, the combination with a neck having an inner threaded end ortion, and a shoulder provided within t e neck below said threaded end portion, a nozzle having a shoulder provided thereon, secured within the said neck and supported by the said shoulder provided therein, a sleeve secured around the nozzle below the said shoulder provided thereon, a threaded cap secured within the said threaded end portion of the said neck, and a cork packing secured within the cap for closing the said nozzle, substantially as described.
4. In a bottle of the character described, the combination with a threaded neck, and a shoulder within the neck below the thread- JOHN L. DUNNOCK.
