SPRINKLER FOR BOTTLES.
APPLICATION FILED um. 24. 1915.

45 a outwardly flaring throat or mouth of the To all whom it may concern:
I o. nwnnn, or BALTIMORE,' MARYLAND,
srnm son 30mins.
Be it known that I, HARRY O. BRAWNER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident o'fBaltimore, Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Sprinklers for ,Botstles, ofwhich the following is a specification.
My invention relates to sprinkler tops for bottles, andthe object of my lnventlon 18 to a provide a cheap and simple form of bottle stopper designed to effectually sealthe contents of the bottle'when'closed and-to permit discharge of the samein drops when open,- upon inverting andagitating the bottle.
- These and other features of my invention are more fully described hereinafter, reference. being had to'the accompanying drawings, in which: v
Figure 1, is a sectional view of the neck of a bottle having a stopper madein accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the parts of my improved stopper detached. p
In the drawings, 1 represents the neck of a bottle 1' which may be of any suitable size or shape.- In. the mouth of this bottle neck. I
Y place a cork 2, having a through opening or bore of two diameters,,3 and 4; the upper -portion 3 of such bore beingmaterially greater in size than the lower portion 4 and receiving a sleeve 5 tightly fitting the same.
This sleeve is provided with an upper flange 6 which may overlie the head of the bottle,
and with a flaring throat or mouth 7,. as clearly illustrated in the drawings.
The sleeve 5 has an axial opening slightly larger than the portion 4: of the through opening in the lower part of the cork, and in line therewith, .and adapted to these registering openings is a round stem or plug 8, of
substantially the same diameter throughout, carried by an ornamental head or top 90f any desired character. 7
The stem or plugmay be provided with a flaring portion or shoulder where it oins the ornamental head which substantially fits the sleeve 5 carried by the cork; The stem 8 of the closure loosely fits within the'bore of the Specification of Letters went. Application filed March 24, 1915. Serial No. 16,780.
Patented m. a, iota.
plete closureifor the bottle, preventing any escape or evaporation of the liquid when steni is removed, however, free flow through the bore 4 of the cork is permitted when the bottle is held in an inverted position' and shaken or agitated. My invention is particularly applicable for use in connection with bottles for perfume, tooth powder, tooth wash, condiments and the like, and as the external parts comprising the sleeve 5, and the stem 8 with its head 9, are madeentirely of glass, a clean and sanitary structure is; provided; The glass stem is freely movable through the glass sleeve, but tightly fits the cork so as to insure perfect closure when the said stem is in engagement with the cork.
1. The combination with a bottle, of a stopper and sprinkler therefor consisting of a bodyof cork fitting themouth of the bot.-
tle and having a through opening or boreof two diameters with a shoulder intermediate the sections of'diflerent diameters, a noncompressible sleeve fitting the larger recess or bore of said-cork and engaging said shoulder, and a stopper having a stem passing through said sleeve out of contact with theboreof the same and filling the smaller bore of the cork.
2. The combination with a bottle, of a stopper and sprinkler therefor consisting of ing the smallerbore in the lower portion of the body of cork, said stem having a flaring shoulder substantially fitting the flaring throat or mouth of the sleeve.
'3'. The combination with a bottle, of a stopper and sprinkler therefor consisting of a body of cork fitting the'mouth of the bottleand having a through opening or here of such stem is in'place in the cork. When this two diameters with a shoulder intermediate the different sized bores, a glass sleeve fitting the upper portion of said cork and filling the larger bore, said sleeve having an 5 outwardly projecting shoulder or flange with a flaring mouth or throat,'and a glass stopper having an integral stem passing through said glass sleeve out of contact therewith and filling the smaller bore in the lower portion of the body of cork, said stem having a flar- 10 ing portionsubstantially fittifig the flaring throat or mouth of the sleeve and a shoulder engaging the top of the glass sleeve.
