Specification of Le tters Potent.

[application filed August 5, 3.909. Serial Ito. 511,435. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, SAMUEL DAVIS, 21 citi- .zen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet or Vanity'Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. I
My invention relates especially to toilet or vanity boxes employed for carrying toilet powder and other toilet accessories, and has for its object the provision of a simple, co1npact and. effective device of this character.
To attain the desired end, my invention consists in certain novel and useful combinations or arrangements of parts and peculiarities of construction and operation, all of which will be hereinafter first fully described, and then pointed out in the cl i;
In the drawing, Figure .l is a ver axiahsectional view of a toilet box embodying my invent-ion. L plan view of the receptacle disk oi. the cover of the box, removed then Fig. 3 is a plan View of the pufi or powoer applying pad, and Fiq. 4 is a like view or the movable perforated disk located over the powder holder.
. Similar mnnerals of reference, wherever they occur, indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
1 is the side wall of box, made of celluloid, sheet metal or any other preferred or suitable material.
2 is a ring secured to the wall 1 the bottom of the box, and 3 is a looking glass.
4 is a disk having a side wall or annulus 5 formed integral therewith, engaging the wall 1 and forming the bottom of the powder holder 6. W
7 is a perforated powder-distributing disk fitting snugly Within the wall 1, being held inplace by friction and by an elastic or spring connection 8 extending from its center to an anchor-piece 9'. v
10 is a ring for lifting the disk 7 when it is desired to supply powder to the holder 6. I
I have shown the disk 7 as resting on the top of the ring 5-, but it is obvious tnat if the disk fits snugly against. the wall 1, friction alone will keep it in place, and it is also obvious'that the ring 5 need not necesbottom piece 4:.
l. and 12 are disks having felt 13, or the equivalent held between them for the reception of pins 14, and 15 is a powder puff or pad carried by the'disks. 16 is the manipulating ring. This combined powder pull? and pin holder will be made the subject of a separate application for a patent. i
17 is the top or cover of the box. 18 is a disk which fits therein and carries a compartment 19 for the reception of a pad 26), held in place by friction, said pad being designed for saturation with cold cream, or the equivulent. 21 is a. compartment carrying a pad 22 for saturation with e preparation of rouge. 23 and 24 are the manipulating rings attached to said pads.
25 is i manipulating piece carried by the disk 18 for the purpose of removing the some from its seat'when it is desired to reach. the compartments carriedthereby.
.lhe advantages obtained. by my construe-r ion or" toilet or vanity box are manifold: -m'ovide extremely compact and serviceble device, and by placing the glass 3 on the outside of the box, it is. always clean accessible, which is not the case when located. within the box where it is exused to the powder, with which it becomes overed. By the use of the elastic or spring ..nnection between the disk 7 and the an at the bottom of the powder said disk cannot be lost or misbar after the same is filled with powder Lll disk is released, and the disk must, necessity, always snugly bear upon its seat. The powder puff or pad notonly provides the requisite means for applying the powder, but the disks forming the back with the felt therebetween, constitute asafe and convenient receptacle for pins. By applying the cold cream and rouge to pads in which they are held by saturation, they are in a. very convenient condition for'a-pplying, and there is no danger of the cream run-. ning if it becomes melted.
Having now fully described my in. ention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: I
1. A toilet or vanity box in which is comprised a Wall forming the side thereof, a mirror fixed in the end of the box, a powder holder forming a backing for the mirror, a perforated disk removably held within the smooth wall of the box by friction, and
automatically close said a cover engaging the to the powder holder, of the wall of the box a disk removably he d within said cover, and dividing pieces carried by said disk, substantially as shown and described.
2. A toilet or vanity box in which is comprised a wall forming the side thereof, a
constituting the top of mirror fixed in the end of the box, a powder holder forming a backing for the mirror,'
a perforated disk removably" held 'within the smooth wall (if the box by friction, and
constituting the top of the powder holder, and a cover for the box, the whole combined and arranged substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereto aifix my signatni'ein presence of two witnesses.
