WITNESSES u iH MW' INVENTOR A TTOH/VEYS im'rnunn 302E, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.-
COMBINATION VANITY CASE.
Application filed February 23, 1922. Serial No. saaeen To all whom ii 'l nag concern:
Be it known that I. ARTHUR E. ROPE, a"
citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new'and I mproved Combination Vanity Case, Of'WhlCll the following isa full, clear, andexact de-,
scription.
This invention relates to improvements in combinationvanity cases, an object ofthe' invention being to provide a device of the mits of an interchange of compartments and the omisslon of certain compartments, whereby the case may be reduced tothe desired number of compartments asv may suit the i. I .II 'A further ob ect is to provide a combination vanity case which preferably of cy-- lindrical form comprising a longitudinal series of independent compartments separably connected, the said vanity case-prefer ablysupported fromits central 'or intermediate compartmentand the compartments on opposite sides thereof capable of interchange or omission to suit the taste or convenience of the user.
A further object to provide a combina tion vanity case which may contain all ordinary articles and requisites for theladiesf toilet, which is neat and attractivein. ap}
and which will most efficiently perform. the functions. for which it is intended.
With these-and other'objects inview the invention conslsts in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will bemore fully hereinafter described and pointed .out- Iin the claims.
In the accompanying drawings-- Figure 1 is a view in side elevation illustrating my improved combination vanity case. Figure 2 is a View in longitudinal section on the line 22 of Figure 1.
- Figure 3 is a view in transversevsection on the line 3-3 of Figure 2. c
Figure 4 illustrates in perspective one of the ends of the vanity case and its powder pufl' to illustrate more in detail the manner of separately connecting the two. My improved device comprises a longituintermediate compartment 3 being Specification of Letters Patent. Patented-June 27, 1922.
dinal series of compartments,preferably, I
although not necessarily, .five in number,- which compartments have giventhe refer"- ence numerals 1, 2, 3', 4,'and 5' respectively.-
Removable ends or covers 6 and 7 are I, sc' rewed'on to the end compartments 1 and 5 respectively, the screwthreaded connection I being illustrated at 8. Y v
The compartments 1, 2," 3, 4, and .5 are also removably'connected'by screw threaded portions, indicated" also by Preference character 8, and'I would have it understoodthat.
all of these screw threadedflportionsfi are 'alike in number and pitch of 'thr'e'adsQso} that the compartments arereadily "intere- "changeable andany compartment can be {f i omitted, or, in fact, all of the end comp'artments can be omitted, and the ends or covers I I 6 and 7 can'be screwed directly upon the intermediate compartment 3,. if it be" so desired.
-. n will thusibenoted that the owner or userof the vanity case may altenthei ar-' rangement and number of; compartments asshe may desire-in accordance with her need; r The vanity case is cylindrical informto make. possible the screw threaded engagement of the several compartments, but it is obvious that theinventionis-jnot limited to the shape, size, nor arrangement ornumberyof compartments as this may begvaried without-departing frpm the' invention f It is obvious, that the invention is. not limited to' the particular material orjar'ticles pearance, which will be ornamental in-'use,
within the several compartments,-but-'I- have rangement, in whichI provide face powder f :in compartment 1, massage cream in compartment 2, nail polishing powder in compartment 4 and rouge in compartment 5, -the special construction, as, will be more fully hereinafter described.
Powder pufi's 9 are preferably supported by the ends or covers 6 and 7. A nail' polisher 10 is supported by the bottom of 1 compartment 5, which constitutes the ,top of compartment 4, and a sponge 11 is supported by the bottom of compartment ,1, which constitutes the top of compartment 2.
"In order to facilitate the rearrangements dilferent articles.
ures 2 and 4, the powder puff or other article is provided with a circular disk 12 having a key 13 thereon, which is movable through an openin 14 in its supporting member having a eyway 15 thereon, so that when the disk 12 is moved through its supporting member with the key 13 in alignment with the keyway 15, the parts can be readily connected, but when assembled, the disk 12 is turned so as to move the key 13 out of alignment with the keyway 15 and securely hold the parts in operative engagement.
In the ends of the covers 6 and 7 I provide mirrors 16 so thatthe lady using the vanitycase can look into the mirror andsee the results of her handiwork. It is obvious, of course, that in one or more ends of the cover I may substitute other forms of disk or plate instead of the mirrors, if it be found desirable in the trade.
The central or intermediate compartment 3' constitutes a receptacle for a number of The bottom or end 17 r of said central compartment '3 may constitute an integral part of the compartment or may be a separate disk secured therein and pro vided with a plurality of cylindrical or other shaped cups 18, 19, 20 and 21 respectively.
Two of thesecups 19 and 21 are preferably larger than the-other cups and are adapted to support bottles .or containers 22 and 23 .-'respectively. These bottles may contain any material, but I preferably supply the same with perfume and smelling salts respectively, and it will be noted that the stoppers 24 of said bottles'22 and 23 are held in the bottles -"'by the engagement of the end of compartment 2 with compartment 3, thus preventing possibility of leakage. In the other com partments 18 and-20 Ipreferably provide eyebrow penciland lipstick 25 and 26 respectively.
While-the vanity case may be carried any way, either in the handbag or muff of the user, it is desirable that a small chain 27 or other similar device lie-connected to the intermediate compartment 3 to enable the convenient support of the case onthe finger of its owner.
While my invention-is not limitedtothe material employed, it may, of course, be
made of precious metal orother'metals, rubber, celluloid, fibre, or any other material,
which iscapable of performing the func tions desired.
It will be noted that in connection with the central compartment 3 I may employ any I receive articles therein,
omit all of the end compartments and connect the ends 6 and 7 directly to the intermediate compartment.
When the article is sold, it will be most likely sold as illustrated, but the purchaser can arrange the compartments in any way she desires.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the ment of a removable compartment on one end of the intermediate compartment, and other compartments removably connected to said 'abovementioned compartments and interchangeable with relation to the intermediate compartment.
2. A vanity case, comprising a central or intermediate compartment, a series of cups in the said compartment, containers in certain of the cups, the other of saidcups adapted to other compartments removably connected to the intermediate compartment, end compartments removably connected to the last-mentioned compartments, and covers on the last-mentioned compartments, all of said compartments and covers having a like arrangement of screw threaded engagement, whereby an interchange and rearrangement of parts is permitted.
3. A vanity case, comprising a central or intermediate compartment, 2. series of cups in the said compartment, containers in cerate compartment, end compartments removably connected to the last-mentioned compartments, covers on the last-mentioned com. partments, all of said compartments and covers having a like arrangement of screw threaded engagement, whereby an interchange and rearrangement of parts is permitted, and a supporting member connected to the central or intermediate compartment.
