` Letters Patent No. 95,908, dated October 19. 1869; antedaterl October 5, 1869.

To all whom lit may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. JOHNSON, of the cityand county of Philadelphia, and State ot Pennsylvania,hav`e invented a new and useful Improvement in Wash-Pave Key-Handles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying draw-ings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

It is usual, in the use of the hose, to lay it on the` top or handle of the key, the latter being in connection with the hydrant, for the purpose of stretching it to take out the kinks; and the handle being straight, the hose is liable to slip olf.

To obviate this difficulty, I construct the handle of irregular form, so as to have one or more depressions, iuto one of which the hose is laid and kept intact, as will be understood by the following description.

In the accompanying drawings, which make a part of this specification* Figure lis a side elevation ofthe key, with the improved handle.

Figure 2 is a top view of the same.

Like letters in both figures indicate the same parts.

A is the shankof the key, which has a socket, a, constructed in the usual manner.

B is the top or handle, which is bent to form depressions b b, into one of which the hose is laid, to stretch'it, and whereby it is held securely, to prevent its slipping off. v

I do not confine myself' to constructing the handle .B merely with curved depressions b b, as represented,

as the object may be accomplished by giving variety to the curved formation of the top, or by angular depressions; as, for instance, a single curved depression will answer as `well`; and, also, one or more angular depressions `.vill accomplish the same thing, the angular depressions having a V-shape, or other convenient form; or, the handle may be made straight, as usual, and turned up at the ends, or have upward-projecting shoulders, to prevent the hose slipping oil'.

What I claim as new, and desire. to secure by Letters Patent, is-

Ihe construction of a wash-pave key, with the handle of any irregular shape,'whereby the hose is kept in position, substantially as described.
