Description

P. WEBER.
CLOTHES LINE PROP.
APPLICATION HLED MAR. a. 1915.
1,21 1,261. Patented Jan.'2,1917;
I WWWWW "(I "MRI! I!!!" a. rumurnmwumna mu. m c' UNITE E PETER WEBER, OF HAMILTON, OHIO.
CLOTHES-LINE PROP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER WVEBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hamilton, in the county of Butler and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Props, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a clothes prop and has for its primary object to provide a construction that will retain its grip upon the clothes line under all conditions.
An object of the invention is to so construct the prop that the same may have a locking engagement with the clothes line.
Another object of the invention is to provide a clothes prop by means of which the same may be readily secured to the line and the swinging action of the clothes line minimized.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawing :Figure 1 is a side elevation of the prop in an operative position. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the manner of detaching the prop from the clothes line. Fig. 3 is an edge elevation.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a main section having its upper edge formed with a semi-circular depression 2 and its lower end pointed as indicated at 3 for the purpose of'penetrating the earth. Hinged to the upper end of the section 1 by the straps 4 is an auxiliary section 5 also provided with a semi-circular depression 6 adapted to register withthe depression 2 when the sections are asso-' ciated for engaging the clothes line, the

clothes line being arranged in the depressions.
For moving the section 5 to an operative or inoperative position, for engaging the clothes line, I provide a rod 7 slidably mounted upon the section 1 by means of the staples 8.- Adjacent one end, the rod 7 is formed into an arcuate portion 9 so as to pass around the clothes line and the adjacent end 10 is bent latcrally so as to engage an aperture in the section 5. The lower end of the rod is formed into a finger grip 10 between which and the staple 8 is arranged a coil spring 12 for moving the rod 7 in a direction to hold the sections properly associated.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,
it should be apparent that I provide a device which is admirably adapted for the purpose for which it is intended, that the device is simple, durable and efficient of construction, and that the device may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost and capable of having a locking engagement with the clothes line and penetrate the surface of the ground for limiting the swinging movement of the clothes line.
What I claim is A clothes prop comprising a main section, an auxiliary section having a pivotal connection with said main section and a spring pressed rod slidably mounted upon one section and having one extremity engaging the other section.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PETER WEBER.
