UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIDNEY J. PERRY, OF SPOKANE. WASHINGTON.
WATC H -FOB-ATTACHING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 780,962, dated J'anuar-y 24, 1905.
-Application filed April '7, 1904- Serial Ida 202,093.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIDNEY J. PERRY, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented a new and Improved Watch Fob Attaching Device, of
ter that will be simple in construction and so. arranged as not only to serve the purposes above mentioned, but to secure the watch in a garment-pocket, thus preventing loss of the timepiece by accidental dropping out of the pocket or through the manipulations of a pickpocket.
I will describe a watch-fob-attaching device embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is an edge view of a watch and fob with an attaching device embodying my invention as in use. Fig. 2 is aperspective View of the fastening, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section thereof.
The attaching device comprises an outer plate having a hook member 1 at its upper end for engaging over the upper edge of the pocket material 2, and the inner end of said hook is designed to engage against the inner surface of the pocket material. The plate also comprises a clamping-jaw portion 3 and is also provided with a loop 4 for receiving the fob chain or ribbon 5. Having swinging connection with the outer plate is an inner plate 6, having a hook portion 7 for receiving the bow 8 of the watch, andthis hook portion has an upward extension forming a clampingjaw 9, which engages with the inner surface of the pocket material 2 and coacts with the jaw member 3. The hook portion 1 of the together by means of a spring 13 surrounding the pintle and having one of its upwardlyextended ends engaging with the hook portion 1 and the other upwardly-extended end engaging with the plate 6. The plate 6 is extended above the pivotal connection 12 to form the finger-piece 14.
The operation of the deviceis quite obvious from the drawingsthat is, by pressingthe upper end of the inner plate toward the outer plate the jaws will be separated, so that the attaching device, with the watch and fob, may be removed or placed in position. The lower end of the jaw portion 3 is curved inward, so as to engage tightly against the goods or pocket material, and the jaw portion 9 is provided with lateral extensions 16, which form a wide bearing for engaging against the inner side of the pocket material 2.
' Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A watch-fob-attaching device comprising an outer plate having a hook portion and a jaw portion, means for attaching the fob to said outer plate, an inner plate having swinging connection with the hook portion of the outer plate, the said inner plate having a hook portion, the end of which-is extendedupward to form a jaw coacting with the first-named having upwardly-extended ends engaging re- In testimony WhereofIhave signed my name speetively with the inner and outer plate mernto this specification in the presence of two snb- I O bers, a hook portion formed on the inner plate scribing Witnesses. member for receiving the bow of a Watch, the 5 said hook having an upwardly-extended portion to form a jaw member, and a portion of Witnesses: said inner plate extended upward to form a S. A. WELLS, 4 finger-piece. JOHN A. PEAoooK.
