To all whom e't may concern.

Be it known that T, Jones AnnAHAMs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphiaand State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pin-Fasteners for Tags and other Articles, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a combined tag and button of novel, simple and efficient construction having provision whereby the combined device may be either pinned to a garment, or the like, as a but ton, or suspended on or attached to a strap, or the like, as e tag.

A further object of my invention is to construct the device so that the pinning means and the suspending means may be both formed of a single piece of material; and a further object of my invention is to provide a novel and advantageous means for securing the pinning and suspending means to the body of the device, and to provide a novel device in which other advantages, hereinafter appearing, are atteined.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings illustrating my invention: Figure 1 is a front View of my improved combined tag and button, enlarged. Fig. 2 is a side View thereof. Fig. 3 is a back View thereof. Fig. l is a section, on line ll of Fig. 3. Fig 5 is a back view of the device showing the sus pending loop bent down into the inoperative position.

Referring to the drawings, designates the body portion of a, button ortag; and, in the resent embodiment of my invention, this b()( y portion 2 is formed of sheet metal and has an inturned flange 3 which extends around the same and incloses and retains .thereon a suitable face member 5 and a transparent covering 6 therefor.

The pinning and suspending means is arranged adjacent to the back of the body portion 2 and it comprises a suspendingloop '2" and a retaining pin 8 formed of a single piece of wire which is held firmly in place on the upper portion of the back of the body portion 2 by two projections 9 which are preferably in the form of tongues struck from the metal forming the body portion 2 and bent to embrace and firmly clamp parts of said wire. The pin 8 extends downwardly from the projections 9 and its lower pointed end rests normally under a protect ing tongue or guard 10 which is also preferably struclr from the metal forming the body portion 2. The pointed end of the pin {3 may be sirung out from the guard when it 1s desired to pin the device to e garment; and, after the device has been pinned to a garment, the pointed end of the pin 8 may be sprung back under the guard 10.

The wire forming the pin 8 and loop '1' is bent at the upper end of the pin to form a shoulder 11 which engages tile bottom of one of the projections 9. The wire is then bent to extend upwardly through one of the projections 9; and then it is bent to form the loop 7 and the two boulders 12 which engage the top of the projections 9. The wire then extends down through one of the projections 9 and is bent to form a shoulder 13 which engages the bottom of cne'of the projections, as clearly shown in the drawings. 11, 12 and 13, and it is then f rmly secured to the body portion 2 by bending the tongues firmly around the portions of the wire between the shoulders 12 and the shoulders 11 and 18. The

11 and 13, engaging the bottom of the loops or projections 9, prevent upward'displacement of the pin 8' and loop 7, and the shoulders 12, engaging the bottom of the loops or projections 9, prevent down; ward displacement of the pin 8 and loop 7.

The loop extends above the top of the body portion 2 and thus serves the double purpose of a suspending loop end a convenient handle for the pin 8. By grasping the loop or handle I, the pin 8 may be quickly and easily inserted. into a garment; and by extending :1. suitable strap or the like through the loop 7, the device may be sus-' pended thereby as a tag.

If it is desired not to have the loop 7 appear above the top of the body portion 2, the loop '7 may be bent by hand down from the position shown in Fig. to the position shown in F and when this is done the loop 7 surrounds the tongues or projections 9 and lies close to the top of the pin 8 and the back of the body portion 2.

1 claim:

1. In a device of the character described, a body portion having a securing tongue, and a part formed of a single piece of wire and embraced by said tongue and secured thereby to the body portion and comprising a retaining pin extending downwardly from said tongue and a loop extending upwardly from said tongue to a position over said tongue and being adapted to be bent down to embrace said tongue.

2. In a device of the character described, a body portion having a securing tongue struck from the body thereof, and a part formed of a single piece of Wire and embraced by said tongue and secured thereby to the body portion and comprising a. retaining pin extending downwardly from said tongue and. a loop extending upwardly from said tongue, said part having a sheul' der formed thereon engaging said tongue and preventing downward displacement of sad part, and said part having a shoulder formed thereon engaging said tongue and prm'enting upward displacement of said part.

3. In a device of the character described, a body por ion having securing projections on the back thereof, and a single piece of wire having its lower portion forming a retaining pin and extending from said pin to form a shoulder engaging the bottom of one of said projections, then extending upwardly through one of said projections, then extending above said projections and forming a loop and shoulders engaging the top of said projections, and then extending down through one of said projections and forming a shoulder engaging the last named projection.
