SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 341,710, dated May 11, 1886.
Application filed December 10, 1885. Serial No. 185,318. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS WHITE, asnbject of the Queen of Great Britain, and aresident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stocking- Supporters, of which the following is a specisupporter when completed. Fig. 3 is a side view thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts.
The letter A designates a blank composed of sheet metal, which is straight on its upper edge and curved on its sides, which curves 0 0 end in a segmental lip, D, forming the lower Adjacent to the upper edge is a transverse slot, e,which serves to receive the end of the usual band for suspending the support from a garment. The lower portion of the blankA is bent upon itself to form a spring-hook, F, of which the lip D is the end, and at a point opposite to said lip the blank is provided with a teat or elevation, t, which is struck up therefrom, and against which the lip has a tendency to impinge, so that the hook is closed by that means. The portion of the blank containing the teat or elevation is a spring-bar, O, which is formed by longitudinal slots sin the blank, it as well as the teat tthus being integral with the blank.
When the supporter is to be used, a suitable portion of the stocking is inserted in the hook, for which purpose the hook may be held in inverted position, and it will be seen that by the shape of the lip D it forms a hood of the stocking and tends to hold the stocking Very firmly.
I claim- A stocking-supporter formed of a single piece ofsheet metal, with the slot 6 for receiving asuspending-band,the spring-hook F,the segmental lip D on the end of said hook, the springbar O, and the teat or elevation 71in said bar opposite to said lip of the hook, sub stantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 8th day of December, A. D. 1885.
THOMAS XVHITE.
