Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented ran. 22, ioio.
v Application filed .Tanuaiy 25, 1909. Serial No. 473,992.
l all whom it may concern:
3 it known that I, FRANK A. CAnLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wichita Falls, in the county of Wichita and State of Texas, have invented a new and} improved Strap-Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to strap fasteners, and more particularly to a clamping device which is held either in the open or the closed position, and the object: is to provide a useful fastener which is adapted for use on various parts of harness, saddles,'reins, and tiestraps, and which may take the place of buckles.
Another object is to produce a device which is simple in construction and operation and which is strong and durable, and which may be manufactured at small cost.
Other objects and advantages will be. fully explained in the following description and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claim.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application and specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective View tener applied to a tie strap. ig. 2-is a vertical section of the fastener, showing the position of the parts in the open position or capacity. Fig. 3-'is a vertical section 0 the fastener, showing the position of the parts in the closed capacity. Fig. 4 is an end view of the eccentric roller. Fig. 5 is a front elevation of the fastener, showing the position of the parts in the open capacity.
Similar to indicate the same several views. Y Y
The fastener has a frame composed of a bottom portion 1 having .bearin arms 2. A roller 3 is eccentrically journ'a ed within said frame in said bearing arms on a fulcrum pin or bolt 4 which holds the arms 2 in operative relation. The roller 3 has teeth of the fascharacters of reference are used parts throughout the l closed the teeth bar is mounted in the frame of the fastener to bear on the periphery of the roller to hold the roller either in the open or closed eapacityJor position. This bar 7' has legs 8 which are passed down under the partition 6 and the ends of the legs 8 are clamped on the partition 6, as shown. The partition 6 is made rigid with the bearing arms '2 by projecting portions of the ends of the partil'tion through the arms as shown in Fig. 1 and riveting bar 7 engages a hold the fastener open,
the same to the arms.- The spring shoulder as shown in Fig. 2.
This provisioncan be appreciated onlyby the person using the fastener. The person does not have to hold the fastener 0 on while adjusting the strap. The spring ar '7 bears on the periphery of the roller and holds thesame firmly on the strap when in the closed position, as shown in Fig. 3. The spring bar has considerable leverage by reason of the eccentric mounting of the roller. The fastener is easily opened by 9 in the roller to pulling the free end 10 of the strap upwardly or outwardly, as shown by dotted outline in Fig.
5 will engage the strap and bind the same against thebearing partition 6. The bottom 1 and the partit1on 6 form a carrier for the fixed or stay end of the pared with Figs. tend in either direction. I
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-
A strap fastener compris'ng a frame provided with a bearing partition, a toothed roller eccentrically journaled in said frame and adapted to clamp a strap on said partition, said roller having a shoulder-formed in the periphery thereof, a spring bar attached to said partition and a apted to bear on said roller'to hold the same against a strap lying on said partition when said roller is in the closed position and to enon the swell thereof for engaging a strap or other device." artition 6 divides the space between the rol er 3 and the body portion 1 so that the stay end of a strap may portion l 1 and the partition and that the roller will be close enough to press on a strap and bind the same against the partition. The parti- X A spring tion 6 is thus a bearing partition.
