Description

new. v. BRADLEY.
BUCKLE.
No. 192,412. P atenfLed June 26,1877.
DE WITT V. BRADLEY, OF. WEST HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. R92,4l2, dated June 26, 1877 application filed March 30, 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DE WITT V. BRADLEY, of West Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, a rear view of the buckle; Fig. 2, the clamping portion detached; and in Fig. 3, a vertical sectional view.
This invention relates to an improvement in buckles, with special reference to the class used for suspenders, the object being a cheap and simple construction. It consists in a plate combined with a loop hinged thereto, the ends of the loop within the hinges turned downward, so as to form clamps to engage the strap, as more fully hereinafter described.
a, is the buckle-plate; b, a wire loop, divided upon one side, and the two endscturned downward at substantially right angles to the plane of the loop, and near these turned-down ends 0 cars formed on the plate are turned over that side of the loop, as seen in Fig. 1,
so as to form a hinge connection between the loop and plate, the end 0 bearing against the plate, as seen in Fig. 3, but so that when the loop is turned upward, as indicated in broken lines, the turned-down ends a will be away from the plate, leaving a passage for the strap between those ends and the plate, and when the strap is passed between the two the loop is again turned onto the plate to bring these ends 0 into engagement with the strap, and thereby prevent its Withdrawal. The brace ends are attached to the loop b in the usual manner.
Thus is produced, in two simple parts, a buckle easy of adjustment, secure in attachment, and exceedingly cheap.
In combination with the plate a, the loop 11, hinged thereto, the hinged side of which is divided, and the ends turned at right angles to the plane of the loop and toward the plate, to form a clamp to engage the strap, substantially as specified.
DE WITT V. BRADLEY.
