Description

4`flinttmi s tatt i To all whom it may concern; 4
Be it known that I, WILLIAM. A. MADARA, of
l WILLIAM A. MADAnaoFsPANGs MILLS, PENNsr.L\`fAN'1Al `Letters Patent o. 94,833, dated September 14, 1869.
IMPROVE!) SMELTING-FJ'RNACB The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the saune.
Spangis Mills, in thelcou-rity of Blair,'and State of Pennsylvania, haveA inventeda new and useful Irnprovelnent in Furnaces; and I do hereby declare that the-following is a full, clear, and exact -description thereoffwhich w'ill enable those-skilled i-nthe art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Y The igure represents my improved device, partly in section, suspended inra furnace-stack.
` in combination with the bars and chain, or barsby which it is suspended and supported in the furnace, .as
` hereinafter more fully described.
A is the double-cone regulator, which formed of `two hollow cones, placed base to base, the .lower one of which is made little smaller'than the other, so `thatits base may enter the base of the other or upper The lower cone is made with segmental-flanges upon the outer edge of its base, and the upper cone is made with segmental anges Iupon the inneredge of its base, so'that the two cones may interlock with each other, as shown in the figure'.
To the apex ofthe upper cone is attached a chain or bar, B, the upper'endof which is attached to the' 'upper' cross-bar C, which is made of such a length as to cross the' furnace headLplates..v
"From the apex of the lower cone projects a bar, D which passes through a hole in' the middle of the bar E, which crosses vthe in-wall below the regulator.
The bars D E keep the regulator from being pushed out of place laterally by the stock, as it would be. it"
unsupported against side pressure.
The upper edges of the side partsof the -bar E are. l bevelled olf, as shown in the figure, to prevent it from obstructing the descent ofthe stock.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is- 4 Thev double-cone regulator A, constructed as Idescribed, in combination with the suspension-chain orv bar B, cross-bar C, guide-bar D, and lower cross-bar E, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
. Witnesses:
O. C.' PRICE, S. HOOVER.
WM.. A. MADARA.
