IMPROVEMENT m-ninns'ss'mmss TO VALI.. WHOM IT lMAY CONCERN:
Be it known'that I, WILLIAM YA'rES, of Canton,` inrthe county of Stark, andi-State of Ohio,have invented an Improved Harness-Ring; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full,lclear, and exact description of my invention, reference being had to the acoompanyingdrawngs, forming a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, of which drawings- Figure 1\is an elevation of one of my improved'rngs. Figures 2 and 3 are views showing various applications of my ring to harness-straits.4 The nature of my invention `consists in the construction-of avharness-ring having a hase for. au ornament, arranged in the interior of the ring by means Aof one or more arms, which connect the base and the ring proper, Vwherebythe ring can be rendered-very ornamental `in appearance, by'puttingany desired ornamentationon the central base, and is made much stronger by means of the `baseand arms, which act as i'nternalfhracing'o .the ring... Y l The arms can also be usd to prevent thestraps, which are attached to the ring, .from slipping around thejj ring, whereby the straps can b'e 4maintained in their correct relative positions withirespet to eachother and thering, which is often of considerable advantage'in harness-making. i
' To enable others skilled in theart'to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction` and application. i
The ring A is made of malleable iron, or-any other suitable material. To this ring are attached one or more arms, C, either by casting them with the ring A, or combining them' with said ring inany other suitable manner'.
These arms are connected at the centre by a hase, B, by casting the rin'gand arms with said base, or in any other suitable-way. l A
The arrangement of the arms C, between the ring A audbase B, depend-ssen tlieposition'in which the ring is used, and the number ofstraps which are attached to it, as, for ins'tnucewhen the ring is used for a breechingring,'asshown in g. 2, where D represents the breeching-strap, F the holdbaok stra-p, andEthe hip-strap,` where the arms C C C are arranged as shown', or where' the ring sused in connection Vvviththe" nose-piece E and head-piece D of a. halter, whore the arms C. C have the arrangement'shown. 'i
It is readily seen .that where the straps,I which are attachedto the ring, areto be maintained Vin position,
as, for instance, inthe case of the halter just shown, the arms C C .C should be ariapggpd as shown, so that thestraps haveno ehanee'to` slide on the ring.
It is also readily'seen that any desired ornamentation can be attached to the base, B, whereby the fing can be rendered very ornamental in appearahcoj;
,Having thus fully described my invention, whatI claim as new ,and desire tosecure byLetters Pateut,is
ring, A, having a. base,` B, arranged in its interiorbymeans of one or more arms, C, sibstantially as and for the'purposehrein specified.' V
As evidence that I claim the foregoing, have hereunto set my hand, inthe presence of two witnesses, this mi any of May, A. nisse.'
WILLIAM YATES.
