Description

@nit-eh' giedre strut i @fitta WILLIAM F. OF .BOSTN, MSSAGHUSETTS.
LettersPat-ent No. 71,3133, dated November 2 6, 18671A i 4 i y @te ctehnle referat in in `time Eaters wat ant making 1mi-driftig:imite.`
T0 ALL WHOM IT; MAY CON CERN:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. SHAW, of Boston, countyof Su'olk, and Commonwealthbf Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improved Dome-Shade;and I hereby declare thelfollowiugto be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others to inake and use my invention, reference being had to the accompauyingd-rawi'ngs, forming part of thisspecification, iu which is `exhibited a side elevation ofiuy improved shade,.\vith its holder; also, a bottom or top -edge view of the holder.
A. shows the side elevation,- B the top or bottom edge view'ot' the holder@` Similar Vforms of shades have before this been manufactured of brass and other materials, the peculiar character'- of them-aterial employed rendering the manner of manufacture feasible. The dome orsemi-spheridal foim is imparted by hammering;`
i or being spun up in a lathe.A But this is, in comparison with my processof manufacture, expensive, involvf ing a. considerably higher cost in the completed article. i i
My improved shade is made, in the first place, from one piece of t'instruck up in ,a press.4 `The material employed and mode of manufacture greatly lessen the cost. i -Morcoverg tin is a metal `that cannot `be used for this purpose, and be manufactured into the form shown in the drawingsror similar forms, iby being spuuup, inasmuch as from its nature it will not admit oi' such a method to s'uicient depth to manufacture an article i like this. B is the holder or ring that embraces the burner or chimney to-sustanthe shade. It is corrugated, and may be made either of flat metal, as illustrated in the drawing, or of wire. Whenlthus made of dat metal, p i and corrugated, it easily adjusts itself to varying sizes of 'burners or chimneys, and maintains the shade in a secure and upright position, sufficient to prevent its inclination or striking against chimneys, xtc., overjwhicli it may be placed. 1 2 3 show the rods or outrnnncrs uniting the adjustable holder to the dome, as`common.
What I claim as my' invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isi 1. The corrugated adjustable holder B, as and for the purposes specified.
2. The improveddome-shade, when manufactured of the material and in the manner herein set forth and for the specified purposes.
W.; F.- SHAW.
