TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, CHARLES WILHELM and Jossrn NEUMANN, of the city of Philadelphia, in the State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented or produced a new and original Design for the Reflector and Case of an Out-Door, Stationary, Oblique Lantern; and we do hereby declare that the following is n full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a. part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the same applied; and
Figure 2 a, vertical diametral section Like letters of reference indicating the same objects when in both figures.
These oblique lanterns are intended to be fixed near the outside upper ends of' store Windows for the purpose of throwing a. strong light into the latter, the flame being protected from wind by :L plain glass door iitting over the mouth of the case.
Referring tothe drawings, A B is the case; C the glass door; D E the reflector; F a gas-burner; G a. gassupplying pipe, and H a. glass chimney. The case A B has eight sides, converging by regular curves to n. point at the centre of the back part of the same, each side being straight transversely, and presenting together a large octangular mouth in front. The latter is covered by the glass door C. The inner side of the case' is painted white. The reflector DE consists of eight reflecting plates, cut .1nd united together at their side edges, so as to present a reflector having eight sides of the same form as those of' the case A B, but shorter and smaller, and secured within the former so as to leave an air space between them, as represented in the drawings. The inner side of the seid reflector D E is polished silver. The burner F is in the focus of the reflector, and is supplied with gas by the pipe G, which passes through one side of the case and then upward to the burner. The glass chimney H passes vertically upward through appropriate holes in the upper sides of the reflector and case, as shown in the drawings.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for the reflector D E and case A B for an out-door, stationary, oblique lantern, as described and shown.
