TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Beit known that I, E. B. REQUA, of Jersey City, inthe county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and improvedv Lamp-Chimney; and I do hereby declare that the following is a ill, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art tomake and use -the same, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. l
l This invention consists in a. new and improved shapeior form of the chimney, whereby the same is kept at an equal distance from the flame all around, and the usual contraction of the chimney above the liaxne avoided, whereby the chimney is subjected to a uniform degree of heat all around, and the liability to breakage greatly reduced. In thc accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure 1 is a. side viwrof my invention.
Figure Q, a'vertical section of the same, taken in the line n: fig. 1.
Figure 3, a horizontal section of the same, taken in the li ne`j/ y, fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The chimney may be blown either in ,moulds or otherwise, and of flat form, that is tov say,'much wider in one direction than in the other, as will be seen byreferring to figs. 1 and 2. The lower part of the chimney is of attened bulb-form, as shown at'A, in fig. 1, the tlat'sides being concave or pressed inward, as shown at a a', the out-lines of the concaves being distinctly shown in iig.t 1. The chimney gradually tapers from its lower bulb portion, A, upward, as shown clearly at Bjn fig. l, the usual shouldefforme'd by a quick or suddeninward curvature of the chimney being avoided. The shape of the chimney directlyaround the flame is shown clearly in tig. 3, the dotted line indicating the ame. By this shape or congurationrof the chimnev the latter will he evenly heated all around, and not be liable to break un'der unequal expansion by heat.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent l A lamp-chimney of flat form, or wider in one direction than in the other, with the iiat sides madeconcave and the upper part of the chimney, abovel the lower .bulb part, made with ag'radual taper, substantially as herein Aset forth.
The above specification of my invention signed byme, this sixteenth day of October, 1867.
. E. B. REQUA.
Witnesses r ALEX. F. ROBERTS, J. M. COVINGTON.
