LOOP FOR INCANDESCENT MANTLES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY ANHALTZER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new or Improved Loop for Incandescent Mantles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.

In the manufacture of incandescent mantles it is the practice to make the loop of asbestos. This material has been found, however, to be seriously defective for the purpose, chiefiy for the reason that the asbestos after it has been put through the so-called fire tests becomes brittle, is easily broken, and in transporting the mantles a loss of fully thirty per centnm is caused by the loops being broken or so damaged that they last but a very short time in use.

It is the object of my invention to overcome these defects, and I accomplish this purpose by constructing my loop of any suitable metallic substance and in a shape best adapted to the uses to which the mantles may be put.

The accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference designate like parts throughout the several views, illustrate my invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the loop in the form in which I prefer to make it. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of a mantle with my improved loop secured thereto, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View thereof.

In the accompanying drawings the mantlebody is designated by the letter C, and the loop associated with the same by the letter A. In the particular exemplification of the in- Vention disclosed in said drawings the loop A consists of a metallic strand, preferably nickel-wire, at each end of which an eye B is provided for engagement with the drawcord at the end of the mantle-body. This cord is designated in the accompanying drawings by the letter D and is arranged, as usual, at the upper end of the mantle-body. As shown, in this form of my invention the strand of wire from which the loop A is formed is twisted upon itself, and the eyes B are provided by the untwisted portions of the strand at each end of the loop.

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The combination with an incandescent mantle, of a draw-oord at one end of the same, and a metallic wire supporting-loop, said loop having an eye at each end engagin g said draw-cord,substantially as described.

2. In an incandescent mantle, a loop consisting of a wire twisted upon itself and having an eye at each end thereof, substantially as herein shown and described.
