ROBERT EMERSON BROWN, OF TIDIOUTE, PENNSYLVANIA.
RiizoR-sTRoP.V
To all whom 'tt 'may concern.
Be it known that I, ROBERT EMERSON BRowN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Tidioute, in the county of larren and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a` new and Improved RaZor-Strop, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact desci'iption.
rfhe invention is an improvement in razor strops, and' has in view a simple and effective means to connect the strop with the swiveled suspending eye or device, avoiding the usual bolt and nut arrangement which is generally found objectionable for the reason that. it wastes a substantial length of the strop, is bad in appearance, scrapes and scratches wherever it contacts and is unsatisfactory in packing several strops together in a box.
My invention may in general be defined as consisting of a split tube, stropping members extending through the split portion of the tube, having an enlargement arranged within the tube and pinched at the outer sides by the edges of the tube, and a device to suspend the strop, attached to the tube.
Reference is to had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a face view of a razor strop constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 22 of Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the split tube and suspending eye removed from the strop.
The invention essentially consists of a tube 5 and eye 6 swiveled in the tube near the center, with the tube slotted or split longitudinally directly opposite the eye. The tube is preferably constructed of spring sheet metal and the eye is secured thereto Specification of Letters Patent.

by upsetting or riveting over its inner' end, as shown in Fig. 2. The leathers or members 7 and 8 of the strop are thinned to an edge at their inner ends and hooked or folded toward each other, with the edges stitched together as indicated at 9. This manner of connecting the leathers or members of the strop forms an enlargement l0. The tube 5 is slid transversely of the stropping members over the enlargement l0, until the ends of the tube register with the opposite edges of the stropping meniber, as shown in Fig. 1. lVith the tube in this position it is impossible to pull out the stropping members, not only by reason of the enlargement 10 but also by reason of the pinching of the stropping members together by the edges of the tube. A suspending device thus constructed and applied to the stropping members, leaves very little of the length of the latter ineffective for stropping purposes, and the strops may be closely packed for shipment.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In a razor strop, a split spring tube, presenting a continuous curved and uninterrupted upper portion, stropping members extending through the split portion of the tube, having an enlargement arranged within the tube and pinched at the outer sides by the edges of the tube, and a device to suspend the strop, swiveled in the upper portion of the tube.
In testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT EMERsoN BROWN.
