LOUIS C. MEYER, OF DAVENPORT, IOWA.
HARNESS-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 641,316, dated January 16, 1900. Application filed April 28, 1899. Serial No. 714,899. (No model.)
To a whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS C. MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Davenport, in the county of Scott and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Harness-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to harness-fastenings, and has for its object to provide a simple,
to. cheap, easily made and operated, but durable tion, ring partly in section.
and secure fastening for hitching-straps and the like. This object I accomplish in the manner and by the means hereinafter more particularly described in detail, and particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like reference letters indicate like parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my inven- Fig. 2 is a side elevation of same. Fig. 3 is an inside view of clasp. Fig. 4 is an inside view of hook, strap broken away. Fig. 5 is an end view of Fig. 3.
My invention consists of the sister hooks A, one of which is bowed sufficiently away from the other toward the shank to admit the ring B, lying in the plane of the hooks A, to move freely between that part of the hooks A, and has its shank O flat and wedge-shaped, the broadest part toward the hook A. The strap D is secured to the shank O by rivets d or otherwise. The shank E of the other hook A forms a clasp of suitable shape and size to cover the front and sides of the strap D and edges of the shank O and extends a little around onto the face of the shank 0, permitting the strap D and the shank O to be drawn into such clasp until the top of the clasp abuts 0 against the shoulders at of the hook A. Each part of the hooks A has a shoulder a on the outside of the hooked portion, which shoulders a form a rectangular notch when the parts of said hooks A are in place.
The operation of my invention is as follows: The clasp is slipped down onto the strap D sufficiently to admit the passage of the ring B between the hooks A and the strap D and then drawn through the clasp until the hooks A are in place. As long as there is any strain on the strap-D the hooks A will retain the ring B.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A harness-fastening consisting of sister hooks, the shank of one being a flat Wedge adapted to receive the strap and the shank of the other being a clasp adapted to receive and retain said strap and wedge -shaped shank, substantially as shown and described.
2. A harness-fastening consisting of sister hooks, the shank of one fiat and wedge-shaped, widest nearest the hook, adapted to receive the strap, and the shank of the other being a clasp adapted to receive and retain said strap and wedge-shaped shank, substantially as shown and described.
3. A harness-fastening consisting of sister hooks, one bowed away from the other toward the shank and having its shank wedge-shaped and adapted to receive the strap and the shank of the other being a clasp adapted to receive and retain said strap and wedgeshaped shank, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS O. MEYER.
