This invention relates to new and useful I improvements in marking tags and has for its object to provide a device of this character which, when applied, is not adapted to str1p 1, 1s a block 5 formed preferably 01' fheavy paste-board, said block being of a wldth substantially equal to the width of the strip of fabric and 'ofa length less than mar the fingers of those having use for the articles upon which the tags are applied.

A further object of the invention resides in providing a tag of improved structure which is simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very efficient and useful in operatlon.

Thus when the portion of the tag at which the prongs 4 are disposed, is bent over upon the other portion thereof, said prongs will be forced through the piece of material and into the portion of the tag having the block 5 therein. The strip 1 is formed with a pair of grooves 7, the grooves serving to weaken the strip where the points 4 are adapted to engage the same, so that the points may be readily passed through the strip 1 and enter the fabric strip 2, so as to permit the tag to be securely held to the material when bent in engagement therewith. j 7

From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved device, the manner of applying the same to use willbe readily understood and it will be seen that I have provided an improved tag which will positively prevent the fingers of the operator from being injured in the application to and the removal of the tag from use. It will also be seen that the device is one which is simple and durable 'inconstruction, inexpensive tomanuf'acture andone which will be very efficient and useful in operation.

While I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be re sorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention. 7

Having thus described this invention, what I claim is 1. A marking tag of the class described comprising a strip doubled upon itself and having the sections thereof secured together to form a body, a stiffening member secured between the sections of the body at one end of the same, and prongs projecting from the other end of said body adapted to be received in said stiffening member upon the doubling of the body upon itself.

A marking tag of the class described comprising a strip doubled upon itself and having the sections thereof secured together to form a body, a block of flexible material secured between the sections of the body at one end thereof to form a stiffening member therein, said stiffening member being disposed at the end of the body formed by the free end portions of the sections of the strip, whereby to space one end of said block from the looped portion of said strip, and a U- shaped wire member secured between one face of said block and one section of the jdoubled strip having the arms thereof pro- I the free ends of said arms being bent later- 1 ally to form prongs and one section of the 1 doubled strip and the adjacent face of the block being scored to receive the prongs therein when the strip forming the body is 1 bent upon itself.
