GEORGE GEBSTHEIKEB, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
KAT-IABTBNEB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 19, 1909.
Application fled larch 18, 1908. Serial Io. 484,818.
invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to ladies hat fasteners and has for its object to provide a simple and etfcctive construction as a substitute for the ordinary removable hat pins.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional elevation; Fig. 2 a plan view; Fig. 3 a cross section of the hat fastener on line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a cross section on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
The hat fastener consists of a frame a of metal or other suitable material, the ends a of which are bent upward and provided with perforations a. The lateral edges of the ate are bent u on themselves to form gui eways a. Slide ly fitting in said guideways are cylindrically curved slides b, b, from the lower surface of which project angularly bent ins c. There are two such slides arran d opposite to one another and adapted to s ide in op JSltG directions. The frame is provided with longitudinal slots d, through which the pins 0 project downward. The opposite inner edges of the slides b, b are formed with flanges or ears 0, to which pi r f are attached, the latter projecting through the perforations a of the bends a of the frame and through the crown II of the hat. The pins carry at their ends knobs g or the like servin as grasps. The two slides are connect together by rubber bands i, springs or the like, whereb the have the tension to normally approac eac other. The frame a is adapted to be suitably attached inside of the crown so as to extend across the head of the wearer.
In use the slides are pulled outward by the manipulation of the ins f and against the tension of the rubber band 2'. When the hat is properly adjusted upon the head the pins are released, whereup'm the slides will move inward causing the downwardly projecting pins 0 to engage into the hair and thereby fasten the hat.
\Vhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a hat fastener, the combination with a hat, of a cylindrically curved slotted frame diametrically extending through and attuclzed to the crown of the hat, two cylindrically curved slides guided in said frame opp :site one another, a number of angular bent pins arranged one behind the other and projecting downward from each of said slides, means secured to said slides above the frame and projecting outward through the crown for manipulatin the slides.
2. In a hat fastener, t e combination with a hat, of a cylindrically curved slotted frame having angularly bent ends for its attachment to the crown, two correspondingly curved slides arranged opposite one anot ier and ided in said frame, a number of angular y bent. pins arranged one behind the other and projecting downward from each of said slides, a pin attached to each of said slides above the frame and projectin outward through the crown for manipu ating the slides and means to cause the slides to automatically move inward.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
