Description
W. S. SEYMOUR.
HAT FASTENER. APPLIOATION nun MAIL 20, 1908.
Patented Nov. 10.1908.
UNITED STAIES PATENT FFICE.
WALTER S. SEYMOUR, OF MILWAUKEE, WISOONSIN, ASSIGNOR, BY DIREO'I AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, OF ONE-HALF T0 ALBERT O. SOHMERLER, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
HAT-FASTENER.
Tof'all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER S. SEYMOUR,
a eitizen of the United States, and resident 0f Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State 0f Wisconsin, l1ave invented 0ertain new and useful Improvements in Hat- Fasteners; and I d0 hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exaet deseription thereof.
My invention eonsists in eertain peculiarities 0f eonstruction and combination of parts hereinafter partieularly set forth With referenee to tl1e accompanying drawings and pointed out in tl1e claims its objeet being to provide two-prong spring-wire hat-fasteners, with simple, eeonomical and eflieient guide-attachments by Whieh t0 seoure said fasteners t0 hats.
Figure 1 0f tl1e drawings represents a rear elevation of a hat-fastener 0f ordinary 0011- struction' provided with a guide-attachment in accordance with my invention for conneetion with a hat; Fig. 2, a view illustrating the fastener in section on the plane indicated by line 2-2 in Fig. l, and a plan view of the guide attachment inverted; Figs. 3 and 4 seetional views 0f said guide attach ment 0n said fastener, these views being respeetively indicated by lines 3-3 and 44 in Fig 2, and Fig. 5, a plan view 0f a blank f01 the aforesaid guide attaehment.
Referring by letzter to the drawings, b indicates the head, and c eaeh 0f tl1e preferably diamond pointed prongs 0f tl1e hat-fastener aforesaid.
The prongs 0f the fastener are loose in guides at right-angles t0 the back of a plate A prov1'ded with apertures d through Whieh t0 stitch lt to a hat, this plate in various forms being the uide-attachment for said fastener. The p ate is provided with a right-angle flange e having apertures therein for the engagement 0f the hat-fastener prongs.
The attachment blank shown by Fig. 5,
Specification of Letters Patent.

} l1as the flange portion thereof provided witll ear-extensions g, h. The ear g is eventually bent t0 band the coil-end 01 0f a spring-pin, and t he ear h is also eventually bent 130 band the shank j of a keeper-hook end 7c of the pin, tl1e streteh 0f said pin between its e0il anal ho0kshank being parallel 110 the 1ighangle flange of the late A.
The point of the eeper-hook of the pin is sl1arpened to faeilitate its enetration ofllat material in order that t e same may be brought over 0nto the sl1ank 0f said hook, and tl1e tongue m 0f tl1e pin is caught in said hook after being passed through said material, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. In case the pin should become broken 0r otherwise unservieeable, the fastener may be sewed to a hat through tl1e stiteh-apertures provided in tl1e plate A, and it is to be noted tl1at the ea1 h 0f said platze tends t0 prevent displacement of tl1e l1ook end of t he p1'n.
I claim:
1. A two-prong spring-wire hat-fastener, a plate with which the prongs 0f alle fastener have sliding engagement through apertures 0f same, the plate being provided with ears, and a spring-pin upon which the late-ears are bent, 0ne 0f the ears being ban ed on the sl1ank 0f tl1e keeper-hook end 0f the pin.
2. A two-prong spring-wire hat-fastener, a platze With which the prongs of the fastener have sliding engagement througl1 apertures in same, the plate being provided with ears, and a sprin pin having 1ts coil-end and the shank 0f its%xeeper-hook banded by the plate ears.
In testimony that I elaim the foregoing I have hereunto set my band at Milwaukee, in the eounty of Milwaukee and State 0f Wiseonsin in the presence of two witnesses.
WALTER S. SEYMOUR.
