-M-AR'IIN LAN DENBERGER, JR., 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO MARTIN LANDE'NBERGER & CO.
Letters Patent No. 93,314, dated August 3, 1869. J
IIVIIPR.OVIEllVlIIEilSIiT IN" KNITTED FABRIC.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettere Patent and making part of the name.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN LANDENBERGER, Jr., of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Knitted Fabric; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same. l
My invention consists of a knitted fabric, in which fiat flexible wire, silvered, gilt, or otherwise polished, is interlooped with brous threads, so that the said wire may appear ou the surface, at intervals, in the form of glistening strips or spots, which impart a brilliant and attractive appearance to the fabric, the lat-ter being in no way impaired, as regards lightness and flexibility,
by the presence of the hat wires.
I will now proceed to describe the mode of carrying my invention into effect, reference being had to' the accompanying drawing, which forms a. part of this specification, and which vrepresents a piece of knitted fabric made in accordance with my invention, the yellow spots indicating the flattened wire.
In making my improved fabric, I use flat wire, silvered, gilt, or otherwise polished, in conj nnctionwith threads of wool o r other fibre, the wire being sulficiently tough and fiexible to be acted on by the needles of a knitting-machine, and therebyinterlooped withthe fibrous-threads without breaking.
The most brilliant effects may be thus imparted to knitted fabrics, as thewire, being bent and twisted by looping, presents irregular surfaces, which havea glistening effect, brilliant shining spots being presented at 'irregular intervals on the surface, and these spots ap'- pearing and disappearing as the position and folds of the fabric are changed, the effect being somewhat similar to that of polished beads or bugles, stitched to I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A knitted fabric, in which attened wire, silvered,
gilt, or otherwise polished, is interlooped with fibrousl threads, as set forth, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof, I havesigned my name to this specification, in the presence of two lsubscribing witnesses.
