ORNAMENTAL SEAM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 17, 1908.
Application filed May 11, 1906. Serial No. 316,402.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT GoRNELY,resident of Paris, France, have invented a new and useful Ornamental Seam, which is fully 5 set forth in the following specification.
My invention relates to seams, and particularly to ornamental seams.
-.In U. S. Patent No. 292,284, dated January 22, 1884, a machine is described and claimed for winding a thread around several rows of chain-stitches which are produced out of a single thread, thus producin cross portions on one face of the materizfi; and
the object of this invention is to produce a highly ornamental embroidery and edging seam by introducing a stuffing material into i v the seam in question.
The invention will be better understood by reference to the accompanying drawings,
wherein- Figure 1 is a view of the seam on the front face of the goods, the stuffing material being omitted; Fig. 2 is a like view of the seam with the stuffing material associated therewith;
and Fig. 3 is a view of the seam on the rear side of the material.
Referring to the drawings, a are loops produced by two hook needles out of a single thread on one face of the goods, and b indicates the crossin portions of the thread a on the other side 0 the goods.
, c is a thread which is wound around the two rows of stitches a, and d is any suitable or desired stuffing material around which the vention a better effect is given to the seam,
by thus filling up and raising the same, and
.that a highly desirable ornamental embroidery and edging seam is thus secured.
Claim.
An ornamental seam composed of parallel rows of stitches arranged some distance apart and having their loops or disposed on one face of the fabric, crossing portions b joining said stitches and disposed on the other face of the fabric, said stitches and crossing portions being formed of one single continuous thread, another thread or threads 0 wound around the parallel rows of loops a and at thesame time around a stufling medium d, which stuffing medium (1 is thus confined by thread or threads 0 which are wound around the loops (1, said stuffing medium (1 filling up the seam and concealing said parallel rows of stitches.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
