UNITED STATES PATENT .OF rcE.
HERMAN D. OSGOOD, OF SOMERVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO JAMES M. OSGOOD, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT I N CURTAlN-TASSELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,696, dated September 26, 1876; application filed July 3, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN D. OseooD,"
of Somerville, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and valuable Improvements in Curtain- Tassels; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to tassels to be used in connection with curtains or other articles with which tassels are used, and is designed to be an ornamental tassel, the outside of Which can be removed when faded or worn, and new velvet or other cloth put in its place without in any way injuring the construction of the tassel.
In the accompanying illustration, Figure 1 is a view of my improved tassel. Fig. 2 is longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section upon the line a: x.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre' sponding parts;
a represents the head of the tassel, attached to the sleeve 1) by means of the pin a. c is a bolt, screwing into the sleeve 1), and provided at its lower end with the double hook or catch d. e is the body of the tassel, and may be made solid, as shown in the drawing, or hollow,
so as to be' weighted; or it may be made in sections or rings, as desired. Stretched upon the body of the tassel e is an ornamental piece of velvet, plush, or other fabric, f. This form 0, provided with the coveringf, is set into an ornamental bowl, g, usually silver or gold plated. This bowl g has, extending upward from it, two or more straps or cords, h, which catch over the hook d, at each end of the same. Placed over the upper portion of the tassel, to hide the bolt, hook, 860., is the bell-shaped piece k.
The bowl 9 and bell k may be of metal or Wood, and. ornamented in any manner, and the straps h may be of ornamented metal or cord, or other substance, and will be recessed into the form a, as seen in the drawing.
When the covering f needs changing, the sleeve b is unscrewed from the bolt 0, the bell 7c is removed, and the straps h unhooked from the catch 01, and the form may be recovered. The newly-covered form is then set into the bowl g, the straps h hooked upon the catch d, the bell is placed in position, and the sleeve I) screwed upon the bolt 0, and the tassel is complete.
A variation of the invention would be to dispense with the straps h, and provide a rod which would extend from the bowl g, and attach to the bolt 0, as illustratedtby the broken lines in Fig. 2.
Having thus'fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In combination with the head a, and sleeve b, the bolt 0, provided with the double hook d, and the straps h, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
2. In combination with the form 6, made solid or hollow, and in one or more pieces, the bowl 9, straps h, and bell It, all substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination of the form 6, made solid or hollow, and in one or more pieces, the bowl 9, and the bell is, the said form, bowl,
and bell being arranged in the position above described, for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
' HERMAN 1). OSGOOD.
